QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

It would be fantastic to see Smith start out turning the ball over tonight and go in the hole about 3 scores to Brees and company and get Troy some mop up time with an actual starting lineup for a change. Crabtree, Davis and Gore give you an excellent contributor at all three levels. There's no excuse for that offense to not score 21+ per game. Troy's mobility could push them over the top if he were to get a chance and seize it.

Hey the Browns still need a quarterback. You know Colt McCoy's not gonna be shit either...

One half of my heart put some time in the former. However as a Browns fan the other half of that heart would politely like to extend an 'F.U' on referring to Colt. We're going to need that kid if a solution doesn't present itself, so most of us are hoping and praying he can be the QB that showed Holmgren enough to step up and draft him.

Well, when the Eagles beat the shit out of the Niners next week, Singletary will hopefully be fired. Along with the rest of the coaching staff.

Maybe the new staff will give Troy a shot. But I have a feeling it'll be Nate Davis if a new staff comes in.

Just time to change something. Hopefully Troy knows the offense well.

Barring injury to A. Smith, I don't expect to see Troy on the field soon, which is unfortunate. After reading the following article, I have come to the conclusion that Singletary is delusional.

"[Alex Smith] played a decent game."

- Really? How is 21-32 for 188 yds with two critical interceptions and one touchdown that came on a screen pass where your tightend did all the work a "decent game"?

"Let's give him the opportunity to get out there and play football,"

- You have to be kidding...Singletary is attempting to defend Smith by pointing out the changes in offensive coordinator. Hey Mike, do you remember a guy by the name of Martz? Yeah, the guy you ran out of town to start this whole OC carousel mess.

After today's disaster, Alex Smith's injury and David Carr's horrendous play, I don't see how Troy doesn't get some significant playing time. Let's hope that Troy has been dosing up on his vitamin C...gotta stave off those infections.

Oh, to hear those wonderful three words again: "Smith to Ginn!"

Surprise: Troy Smith to start at QB for 49ers

Different country, different quarterback. The 49ers' starter for Sunday's game at Wembley Stadium will be Troy Smith, Mike Singletary announced before the team's Wednesday practice in Hertfordshire, England. Regular starter Alex Smith will miss two to three weeks with a left shoulder sprain, he said.

The move means that Singletary has skipped over David Carr, who was ineffective after filling in for Smith on Sunday, for Troy Smith, who only joined the team on Sept. 6. Singletary cited Smith's leadership, something he displayed while winning the Heisman Trophy at Ohio State and later with the Baltimore Ravens, as a prime reason for the move. He said he thought Smith knew enough of the offense but conceded that this week's practice - the first time Smith has worked with the first-team offense - will be revealing.
