QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

billmac91;1234563; said:
If Baltimore is serious about winning, they are going to have to depend on their defense and a QB who limits turnovers. Kyle Boller is incapable of that. I think Boller probabaly has made more good throws than Troy this pre-season, but his bad throws outweigh them.

Troy has one pick, and it wasn't b/c of a stupid decesion. He gives them a better chance at winning.
I agree... and I am not saying Baltimore SHOULD trade Troy, I'm just sayin' if they don't want him bad enough, let him go somewhere he can play, and make a difference....

Really looking forward to the game this Saturday...

Smith to start at QB for Baltimore

By the Associated Press

Thursday, August 21, 2008
OWINGS MILLS, Md. ? Troy Smith will be the Ravens starting quarterback Saturday, Aug. 23, for Baltimore's preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, coach John Harbaugh said.
The former Heisman Trophy winner may play as much as three quarters as the Ravens want to evaluate him as they try to determine who will be the QB in the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7.
Former starter Kyle Boller is Smith's chief competition, yet Boller might not even play against the Rams. He has committed a team-high three turnovers in two preseason games.

I still remember the USC game (I think it was that game). Where Quinn broke for a 40 yard run and got caught behind. The announcer immediately said, "The difference between Brady and Smith. is with Smith that would of been a touchdown."

Quinn hasn't proved anything compared to Troy. Troy faced a pretty stout defense in Pittsburgh last season as a rookie, and performed fairly well. He walked away with a win. These preseason games can only show so much.
Until I see Quinn during the regular season I will hold my opinions.... even though i dislike him ...... alot.

With Baltimore giving Smith the start this weekend it shows that they have lost complete confidence in Bollers play. Flacco will get a start in mid season, regardless of how Troy is doing. The Ravens organization is too stubborn not to give him a chance.

USC probably would have caught Joe Montana as well..........

Jesus, why do I even watch ESPN?

Interviewing Trent Dilfer for Cold Hard Facts, they ask him who should be starting for the Ravens. He replies that it should be Kyle Boller, because you don't want to see a first year starter's mistakes that Troy Smith would make.

Seriously, what the hell?

He must not have thought about that for more than three seconds, because there is absolutely no logic.

Would you rather see a first-year starter's mistake (either Smith or Flacco, really), or would you rather see Boller, a 6-year guy, make first-year starter mistakes for the sixth year? Even if Troy goes out there and sucks, you're going to know a little more about your team. Putting Boller out there would just repeat last year. And that didn't go well.

No. Logic. Whatsoever.

I have confidence in Troy. We all saw what he can do. Give him a few seconds to (at least) run and he'll make your jaw drop a few times a game. He won the Heisman for a reason, and it wasn't because he's short.

Ohio State football: Troy Smith on fighting to start in the NFL

by Doug Lesmerises Friday August 22, 2008, 4:30 AM

large_troy2.jpg
AP fileFormer Heisman Trophy winner and Cleveland native Troy Smith is fighting to start the season at quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. "I'm not just playing this quarterback position because I want to play this position. I'm playing because I want to be the best," Smith said.

Saturday night in St. Louis, Troy Smith will start the third game of the preseason for the Baltimore Ravens against the Rams with the chance to lock down the starting quarterback job for the start of the regular season. Kyle Boller started the first preseason game, Smith started the second and while neither has played well enough to make the choice for first-year coach John Harbaugh an easy one, Smith, despite completing just 8 of 17 passes for 99 yards, no touchdowns and one interception, has intrigued his new coach. In the end, either of them might just be keeping the pocket warm for rookie first-round pick Joe Flacco.

But when he came to Ohio State, Smith wasn't expected to snatch the quarterback job away from Justin Zwick, much less go on to the Heisman Trophy. Former OSU quarterback Cornelius Greene said he expects Smith to surprise people in the NFL the same way he did in college.
It's been two months since I talked with the Glenville High grad at his charity golf outing at Solon Country Club. He was excited about the more aggressive, attacking offense he was expecting from the new staff and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson. What Smith said then about his hopes for winning the job and about approaching his second season in the NFL probably apply even more today now that the job is within his grasp.
I was talking to Cornelius Greene, and he compared your situation with the Ravens to what you went through at Ohio State. Is there a comparison there?

ESPN - Ravens QB job is Smith's to lose - AFC North

Ravens QB job is Smith's to lose

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Troy Smith didn't pass the test in his first preseason start last week.

But Smith did just enough to earn another chance to re-take the test and see if he can get a higher score.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh named Smith the starter in Baltimore's third preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, which is the most important game of the four exhibition games. A quality start likely leads to Smith becoming Baltimore's quarterback in the regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

He probably took too many head shots during that season with the Browns.

Troy won't play due to a stomach virus. This really sucks. :(
Damn, well, chances are Boller will fall flat on his face anyway.
