QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Like everybody has pointed out, he's in a great situation with the chance to learn behind a guy like McNair. And even though he won't rake in the huge $$ right away, it will probably come soon enough. Plus, how many of us graduate from college and pull in six figures right away? That's decent money..

I'm just hoping they'll do one of those commercials on Troy in a few years like they did for Jason Taylor this year.

"Troy Smith won the Heisman Trophy in 2006 but fell all the way to the last pick of the fifth round round due to less than ideal measurebles, after leading Baltimore to four consecutive ten win seasons, the Ravens only measurable for Troy is in the win loss column. He was drafted behind other quarterbacks like John Beck, Kevin Cold, and Brady Quinn... who?? The draft matters."

I think that would be pretty cool (despite the fact that it's for the Ravens, maybe he'll get traded with the same results).

If the kid could pick his spot this would have to be it. Great defense to set him up in good field position, good offensive line to protect him, good running backs and receivers, an offensive minded coach and a starting QB with a limited future.

What impressed me with Troy was how he developed as a passer, he could put air under the ball or zing it and he was great under pressure.

I have so many wonderful memories of his three years, hard to pick one, but his performance against Michigan in 04 makes it still my favorite game to replay.

TS & Mcnair

Wasn't it Mcnair's camp that Troy went to one summer and almost got in trouble for?? I think he went down to be a "counselor" type at McNair's camp for quarterbacks, and I recall some kind of stink about the plane ticket or someone thinking he did not have permission to go to it.

Point is, he and Mcnair already have a history of sorts.

The irony of a Heisman winner being an "underdog" is great --- the Baltimore fans will appreciate/love everything they get from Troy, which we Buckeye fans know will be a LOT. Troy in the Super Bowl?? Probably three years from now, maybe four.

Shit, the Buckeyes' O Line is as big as any NFL team's O line, and he never had trouble seeing over those guys. Boone, Rehring, Datish, Barton, etc. never got in his way. I'm gonna go to the Ravens roster and see if they have a bunch of 6' 10" O linemen.

Just win, baby!

Ravens, though publicly guarded, select Ohio State QB Troy Smith in fifth round
By Jamison Hensley
Sun reporter
Originally published April 30, 2007

"Can you believe this guy lasted to the bottom of the fifth round?" a high-ranking Ravens official said shortly after the pick. "If he was two inches taller, he would have been a first-round pick."

"Whether he develops into a starter, I think that's up to Troy," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "He will be given those opportunities. I think one of the things that Troy impressed upon me was he went to Ohio State in a similar situation where nobody gave him a chance. He earned his way onto the field."

Newsome said yesterday that he had no concerns about Smith's character, especially after he received an unsolicited phone call from Ohio State coach Jim Tressel on Tuesday. Tressel endorsed Smith as a person and a leader.

"I feel like this would be a very good place for him," Tressel told Newsome.

Peter King loves Troy. Here's an excerpt from his MMQB column.

"7. I think I'd like to hear the defensive comments four years from now from scouts when they are asked to justify how Troy Smith went with the last pick of the fifth round. This isn't Charlie Ward, people. This is a guy who played at a high level until the last game of his college football career. And he goes 174th? I almost would call that irresponsible. Troy Smith went two picks after Legedu Naanee, for crying out loud. Smith's the same height as Drew Brees, people!"

Yeah, that 2004 game is a killer, but I have to go with the 2006 edition.........if for no other reason than I was there!! The fake to Ginn was a once-in-a-lifetime play.

Kudos to Troy for landing a plum job.....at least it will be in his hands. And JT came through for him.

By the way..........where did Chris Leak end up? :tongue2:

Rushing: 22 rushes for 157 yards (7.14 ypc), 1 TD

Most NFL teams forgot Smith has ability to win

Does anybody else wonder whatever happened to Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith?
Perhaps we Ohioans are too caught up in our Buckeyes hype to get a true picture of Smith.

Do we look at the OSU star only through scarlet-and-gray-colored glasses?

be honest, would you transfer out??? he obviously is never going to get a real opportunity to be the man at osu. a qb can practice every day, all day, but until he gets game action he will never truly develop. holding a clipboard for four years isn't going to benefit Smith if he wants to play at the next level. what would you do? transfer to a small school and play immediately? transfer to a bowling green or kent st., sit out a year, and then start for two years?? look at what brock berlin has done by transferring out of florida. smith already has his gold pants, varsity lettermans jacket, and a nc ring....personally, i'd be out of there asap if i were Smith.

GPA nominee??
