QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I think Tibor makes a fair point though. We are not known for developing NFL QBs, which has been an issue during some part recruiting efforts with top flight prospects. Is that a factor in Troy dropping? I doubt it. However, we do see Buckeye DBs (as an example) and WRs go higher than they might otherwise because of the tradition of us developing very successful people at those positions.

I do think it will change over the next 5-10 years, we're bringing in better prospects (going back to Smith and Zwick and going forward, and talking to a lot more as well).

I really think Troy goes right here in the next 2 picks to Chicago.

How many first round QB's has the Big-10 had in the last 10 years? I know it isn't many. I'm not saying the Big-10 hasn't had some success with NFL QB's but it doesn't in the draft.
If you are speaking of 1st round picks OK, though many of those simply bust.
But, those who actually take the field of play count more in my view than the bragging rights of Draft Day.

It's not just Ohio St.'s rep. It's the entire Big-10.

I knew there was a reason you were over here.

don't think so. It didn't hurt Stanton who did nothing in college.

Brady, Trent Green, Jeff George, Kerry Collins, Drew Brees, heck even Jim Sorgi is the #1 backup on a super bowl team. All these players (minus Sorgi) had better NFL success than any OSU QB of the last 20 years.

Except Tupa.

Stanton has been hyped up the ying-yang the past 2 years though. He was going to go Day 1 regardless.

Ouch. Well. That really surprises me. I thought he was a good value there, that Chicago still needs a QB, and that they'd take him in one of those two picks because they have to expect him to be gone before the next time they pick.

I'm disappointed just because I thought that was Troy's ideal team (I'm not a Bears fan, just thought it was a good match). Someone will pick him up.

Roy Hall to the Colts!
