QB Taylor Graham (transfer to Hawaii)

I think Graham is far more athletic than people give him credit for. The real issue is playing time. He was hurt for 1/2 of his Senior season in HS. Red shirt last year. They would be wise to give him and Guiton same snaps in the first three games.

The little bit of Taylor that I have seen, doing warm up drills, and during practice vids or the spring game, has shown some good and bad things. He has a great arm, can be very accurate at times, is a true pocket QB. He can also be very erratic at times, and is lacking in the mobility department d/t his knees. If this kid gets a good understanding of the playbook he has a real shot to make an impact. That being said, I don't think that the current situation that we are in is going to be very good for him. He is definitely the dark horse.

Looking forward to TG seeing some time on the field. He played HS with some kids we know well. Prior to getting injured the last time(and if I recall correctly it wasn't just his SR year but also during his JR campaign as well) he was tearing up the 7 on 7s. He'll get his turn and it's a blessing that we have some versatility in the QB corps now. We're a long way from understanding what this team will need under center in the next year or so.

?Taylor Graham did a little just because he knew everything, he was out directing people and stuff like that,? he said.

?Which is a breath of fresh air, especially with a young guy like that.?

A redshirt freshman out of Illinois, Graham is the son of former Ohio State quarterback Kent Graham. He is a tall, wide-shouldered quarterback with the build of a Robby Schoenhoft, but with an NFL-caliber arm.

?He can throw the ball. He?s very smart. Usually I?ll have to yell out stuff when we?re back in the backfield, but Taylor took control (in the spring),? Boren said.

?He knew everything and knew exactly what he was talking about.?

He is still developing his accuracy and decision-making, but Graham throws a very catchable deep ball. With his blood lines, he also seems to understand the game and the quarterback position as well if not better than the older players, which is why Boren could see him in starting lineup against Akron this fall.

?Yeah I could. I definitely could,? he said.

?He?s a great football player; very, very smart. He has a great arm and stuff but I could also see the other three starting out there behind us.?

Our boys sitter played safety with TG. Said that their basement walls are lined with pics of D-formations... Wall to wall... I'm sure he's had some good study time with pop!

Best of luck to this young man! Looking forward to a kid from down the road to hit the field this year in a big way!

Lessons of the father
OSU's Taylor Graham hopes patience and perseverance have their own rewards--just like they did for his dad

by Eric Lyttle

Jim Bollman smiled when asked about Taylor Graham Sunday. It's not that smiles are so rare on the face of Ohio State's offensive coordinator. They aren't. But this one seemed more spontaneous, more sincere.

In a preseason in which Bollman is asked almost daily who the Buckeyes' starting quarterback will be, he seemed genuinely pleased to be asked about the one quarterback in camp that everybody knows won't be starting. His smile said so.

And then he pointed to his head.

"He's a really astute young man," Bollman said of the red-shirt freshman who's been overshadowed in a quarterback battle that's become a two-man race between the experienced, strong-armed pocket passer Joe Bauserman, a fifth-year senior, and the emerging, elusive true freshman, Braxton Miller.

"Taylor has a great knowledge of the game; he's a great student of the game," Bollman said. "It's the kind of intelligence that makes coaching him a joy."

It's an observation that many make very quickly in assessing Graham. But then, he is, of course, the son of former OSU and NFL quarterback Kent Graham.

That line attaches itself like an appendage to every profile, every scouting report, and nearly every conversation that arises about Taylor Graham. And while father and son have "a very tight relationship," according to Joe Wardynski, Taylor's high school coach at Wheaton North, Illinois, it's a topic that neither father or son appear to have a great enthusiasm for discussing.

Kent, in fact, did not return requests for an interview for this story, and is rarely quoted in any stories about his son. Taylor's answers regarding his dad's influence and impact come fast, almost rote. The impression left is obvious-it's Taylor's time to make his mark, by his own hand.
