QB Taylor Graham (transfer to Hawaii)

Graham might be the most intriguing player in this class. Considering he's been injured for 2 years but has a ton of tools to work with, we really haven't got to see much from him. Graham will be an interesting one to follow and I'm glad he's a Buckeye. :osu:

Yup... two years in a row he went down before I got the chance to see him play in pads. Looking forward to seeing him in S&G.

OH!

Graham is quite an anomaly for Tressel. Every QB I've ever seen him sign-- and that includes when he was at YSU-- has had at least some ability to make something happen with his feet. Some were great runners (e.g., Terelle Pryor, Troy Smith, Ray Isaac) and others were pure pocket passers (Justin Zwick, Todd Boeckman, Rob Schoenhoft, Mark Brungard, Nick Cochran, and Jeff Ryan), but all had the ability to gain yards if a play broke down. That's a Tressel staple: to not make negative plays and to put yourself in better position for the next play. Graham, by his own admission, does not make plays with his feet. I certainly hope that he can become a great quarterback at Ohio State, but history is against him.

But arm strength, IMO, is the most overrated aspect for a QB. Jamarcus Russell and Kyle Boller are the two shining examples that a big arm can't do much for you in the NFL (Derek Anderson is near that boat as well).

Agree, I wouldnt put Jamarcus in that group the talent around him is terrible and the organization/team he plays for is a cluster....

A big swing and a miss on that comment there, eh Go blow ?

The coach's influence

When incoming freshman Taylor Graham suits up for his first practice as a Buckeye quarterback, he will be more prepared than most.

Graham was born in 1991 at the Ohio State Medical Center, the son of the Buckeyes' starting quarterback at the time, Kent Graham. Taylor got a taste of the spotlight when he became the starting quarterback at Wheaton, Ill., North High School, where his father had been an All-American and remains a popular figure.

Matt Foster, Taylor's coach at Wheaton North, pulled him aside and told him he must embrace his father's legacy while building his own, because the comparisons will never end.

"He took that to heart and did a good job being his own man," Kent Graham said. "I'm proud of him in terms of how he dealt with his high school experience."

It became clear Taylor was comfortable in his father's shadow when he committed to play quarterback at Ohio State. His family's history played a role in the decision, Kent Graham said. Coach Jim Tressel played a bigger role.

"He's been coaching quarterbacks for so many years. He understands the way a quarterback thinks and the pressures on a quarterback-the attention and outside pressure," Kent said. "Having a coach who understands that reality goes a long way."

Here are two Ohio State players to watch heading into training camp: offensive lineman Marcus Hall and quarterback Taylor Graham.

Graham, a true freshman, was felled by injuries his last two years of high school and enters camp lugging some question marks. But Tressel said at the Big Ten meetings that Kenny Guiton, Joe Bauserman and Graham would compete to back up Terrelle Pryor.

It seemed significant that Graham was included.
