QB Tavien St. Clair (Official Thread)

My QB needs to be able to read a defense and make the right reads. Being big and strong mean little if you get fooled by defenses. I know the coaches will play the best, and there’s been a reason that Fahey has been QB2. But maybe things change in 2wks

I think he’d scream at him when he cant tell a blitzing LB, or a cover 2

Braxton Miller never read a defense in his life. Cardale couldn’t read one either. They put in a whole new playbook for him when JT went down. Well documented.

Swapping out QB’s in a run first offense that featured Zeke is a different situation than swapping them out in a pass first offense where the run is the change up.

I think Day knows QB’s and these guys can do it but this isn’t Cardale 2.0 here.

I was there and dont remember the smoothest of days. Maybe he has worked on play analysis and gotten better at his reads. He has all the physical tools. I just want the best to play. But everyone can watch for themselves as this is most reps he has had this year

He was coming down during high school and working with staff.
He was, and think that 3yrs later hes still behind Fahey as far as reading defenses and calling offenses. 1 kid played in one of the biggest conferences in 1 of the biggest cities in America in a more complex offense on a team that is usually nationally ranked. the other played rural OH football where most fans couldn't tell you how to even say Bellefontaine with a limited offense set around having their big QB throw it far or just run over the kid who will be working on the family farm next year. TSC was a 5star based on future evaluations, he was not at that level in HS

Good lord @ that video. The athleticism for his size is other worldly. Cam Newton-esque.

Same can be said for Kienholz. Brohm completely changed his offense to suit his talent. Seems to be working out.

This 50% Ohio homers and 50% eyeball test is ignoring whatever % there is of people who just watched what looked like a baby deer on the Autobahn. I'd like to say it's not fair to expect a true freshman to look polished and prepared for a game where he wasn't expected to play......but then I see Michigan put their true freshman in and he's capable enough to complete a pass. And we have the QB Guru as a HC.

Brohm had an off season to cater the offense to him. What coach is catering an offense to a backup, especially mid season?
And athleticism looks great, but this was a scrimmage setting, and he had a lot of happy feet moments, and this was against a vanilla defense that was set up to make him look better. Hardly any disguises. He had some great throws as well

scUM was at home against a bad Ped St team. That's a % of fans that doesn't realize nuisance and the situation. It'll be interesting to see what Carr does against that same IU defense, and at least he'll be playing at home. Carr playing in Bloomington in a top 5 matchup, I don't think does much better. And again, if Fahey was the choice, I'm scared what they've been seeing from TSC...

So because it was a road game and the other team was good, looking like a toddler who can't throw 5 yards is excusable? I don't expect Sayin 2.0, but I expect better than what I saw.

And I'm not on the TSC bandwagon, either. There were so many comments about how great he looked in the Spring Game, and all I saw was one great deep shot to CHjr and then a lot of ehhhhhhhh. But ehhhhhhh is better than what was shown to us from Fahey on Saturday. Maybe it was the garbage OLine. I have no idea.

I think the question with Fahey (at least mine and I expect that it's shared) is not the production, but that he looked completely inept. Fine, granted, he's a freshman, it was an away, top-5 game, against an aggressive defense. Still, we hear about "moxie" and offensive knowledge, etc. and I would've liked to have seen some semblance of that. What he experienced is why he's here and what he's supposed to be able to handle as QB2. Maybe, hopefully, he works hard the next two weeks and is functional within the system, as, it seems, TSC is unable to be. Just an inauspicious debut.
