I’ve been told Tate can graduate after next semester. He would eligible to transfer penalty free to any program that offers a graduate program field in his elected major.
I’ll give it to Tate. He is on pace to graduate early, which was extremely smart on his part. He’d have 3 years of eligibility left after redshirting as a True Freshman.

I might be in the minority here, but I expect Tate to win the job next season even if Fields gets the waiver. Kid is a damn competitor and a great QB. I think way too many people are writing him off. I am excited about the Fields transfer like everyone else, but I legitimately think Tate is our starting QB in 2019.

No disrespect to your opinion.....but I don’t think Fields, or his parents, allow him to transfer to OSU without assurances.
I was excited to see what Tate could do as a starter, but I don’t believe the program was comfortable with him as the leader of the program. I expect Tate to transfer once he’s completed his degree.....
And I could be 100% wrong, but it sounds like Fields isn’t expexting a competition battle. We’ll see.

nice write. now, JMO but I don't think anyone has promised Fields anything other than the chance to compete. I don't think any coach would agree to that unless the ones already there were totally inept. Which is clearly not the case here.
I think that he listened to Haskins and the QB coach they were both tutoring under. But as you said we'll see.

His parents had zero authority to prevent his transfer.
The reason why Martell wasn't the "leader of the program" was because the best QB ever at Ohio State, and probably the conference, was ahead of him.

I hear what you are saying, but no way Fields is just given the spot. He will need to beat out Tate assuming that Tate stays for the battle. I am sure there was a talk that went along the lines of "If you come to OSU and get the waiver, there is a good chance you take over for Haskins if you put in the work". But I sure as hell hope Tate is ready to fight because I think he can beat out Fields...kid is a champion. This is not taking one guy over the other because I honestly just want the best player to play...but I really do think Tate can be our guy heading into 2019 even if Fields is eligible.
Edit: @MililaniBuckeye and @Best Buckeye said exactly what I meant to say in a more succinct manner. I really think Tate is the next thing here and as excited as I am to see Fields here, I think Tate will take over the show if he keeps his head on straight.

If Day did make a promise, which I have zero doubt he would not make such a folly, please give me a new coach.
With that said, Baldwin isn't just going to stand by and watch. It should be a good contest. My son made me watch QB1 on Netflix and I have to say Tate was a little more than over the top at times. Hopefully he has matured the past two seasons.
