QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

For me, it's pretty obvious what a bad look is. A bad look doesn't have to rise to the level of being a fiasco. It just has to look bad to the outside, not necessarily to fans of the program who are willing to overlook it, rationalize it, or justify it in their own minds. I'm not saying it's horrible, or it will leave a lasting stain on the program or some BS like that. But it is a bad look.
Can you actually articulate what it is that looks bad? I'd like to know what looks bad, because I'm at a loss.

I wish he would have at least competed for the job instead of ditching it for a new opportunity. It does give him a sense of new power and maybe able to be the BMOC. But he is going to face the same challenges at miami as he did here. From a pysch view, working through issues and problems create a better person. Seeing a potential roadblock and jumping ship before even encountering it, results in a higher sense of self. But in the future, a mere scratch feels like only a tourniquet is going to fix the issue.

I wish him the best. But entitled is the label he needs to erase from his resume. He is talented, but his ego needs to be checked.

I have feeling Tate thinks he's going to get a waiver. If he doesnt fully expect to get one (delusional or not) either he let his ego get the best of him or there is more to the story we may never know. He knows chances are high he would be starter this year at Miami. In a year though it's always possible someone else could do enough to entrench themselves while being scandal and suspension free (I think all or all but one Miami QBs got suspended this year). Risk reward seemed way more favorable to stay at OSU this season unless you really believed in that waiver (again, barring some other pieces at play than what we know).

It looks bad, on Tate’s part. What did Ohio State do? Take another QB into a thin QB room? Try to take on a talented player? Force Fields to come take Martell’s starting chance? Fields came on his own power. Was it still offering Tate a chance to compete that seems to have been turned down? Give Tate a scholly for two years, to sit for one and be a backup to a early first round NFL draft pick for the second? Life sure is hard for those free ride guys. Last I checked, Tate was welcome to stay on the team and have his full ride if he chose to do so. Ohio State isn’t the big bad man here. The reality of college football is, if anyone.

My guess is any parts being looked at as bad on Ohio State’s part is probably based on assumption. Unless someone has direct inside knowledge on to what was said and or promised to Tate or Justin, then we are just making things up to keep a tiring conversation going.

Does Bama look bad, too, because Hurts transferred? They have a better option. Are they supposed to let Hurts keep starting because it’s the not bad thing to do? Isn’t it a bad look to let more talented players sit the bench? The more talented players get to play. The others are backups. Not the worst problem in the world to have. Let’s see where all of these players are 3-4 years down the road and base our decision on whether it was right or wrong off of that. My guess, obviously Haskins is going to be a productive pro. No problem with Tate sitting behind him. Fields goes on to play on Sunday’s and Tate hopes to get to start at Da U before being a later round pick if at all.

No you haven’t. That’s the point. All you’ve said is that it is a “bad look“. I’m not even saying whether it is or isn’t a bad look, I don’t even know what you’re talking about. What looks bad? A kid transferring? Something kid said? Something a coach said? I seriously don’t know what you are pointing to.
Go back and re-read. I've repeatedly said why it is a bad look. Furthermore, it is a bad look when you have one player who most people consider a potential starter, leave the team because the staff brings in another player that hasn't even been cleared to play yet. Especially with such a swift about face on Martell's part, and compounded by the fact that he has to seek his own waiver, it looks like the staff either wasn't straight with him, causing him to make himself look foolish, and then causing him to leave, or even that they may have just pushed him out the door.

It looks that way - It doesn't mean that it is that way, but it looks that way. You can spin it however you want, but it is a bad look. Especially considering a lot can happen during the off-season.

That must have been really hard to finally articulate.
