QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Where else was it to play out?

Frankly, that was my difficulty in understanding the point that was being made. The mere fact that we know anything about it implies that it's public. I'm not sure that there is any way around it not being public at some level. And I'm still not convinced that something like this being played out in the public is ultimately a bad thing if it's handled with grace from both sides. In this situation we have one party who has remained silent and another party who took to the twitters. Hard to fault the silent party in any of this if the criticism being leveled is purely related to the public nature of the situation.

Can Tate catch the ball? Because his future isn't at QB. He's too short and can't throw that well. If he wins the starting QB job at Miami, the Canes won't win shit.

Imo, he should get started on trying to transform himself into the next Wes Welker.

Honestly have no problem with the dude transferring, probably best for everyone, but this came to mind in response to that tweet:

When someone thinks of a bad look at a school, it's Oklahoma banning Kendall from transferring when Hurts is announced, or OSU seemingly protecting a wife abuser (not talking about what actually happened, rather the appearance from the messaging and reporting), etc.

"It ended poorly" is different than it being a bad look by all parties. From where I'm sitting, Tate was a very public personality that wore his emotions on his sleeve.

Short of forcing him to be quiet or not pursuing a transfer like Fields, I am not sure how the school is involved in it being a look.
I consider the Oklahoma situation to be more than just a bad look!

Just because I consider the Tate Martell situation a bad look, and that both parties possibly bear some of the blame, doesn't necessarily mean I think that Day and the staff did the wrong thing, more that it was an unfortunate situation that got played out in public. I doubt that Martell would have been shooting off on twitter if he didn't think he still had an opportunity to start next year. It seems to me that was never in the cards. Like I said, there are perfectly valid reasons why info may not have been shared with him beforehand, and that does not mean that doing something different would be less bad.

Go on....
I’ve posted most of it. Tathan was committed to them first, Spavital got canned, they brought in Mazzone from UCLA, Mazzone wanted Starkle (Nick Starkle)... Tathan did the boasting on twitter similar to what he did here, proclaimed he’d start as a freshman and when it became clear Starkle wasn’t gonna decommit, Tathan did...

at one time I think Aggy had committed or on the team Kyle Allen, Kyler Murray, and Tathan.... all 3 left

Tate shooting off on Twitter is not new. The fact that he did it in this case is indicative that he didn’t want the competition.

I’m with others here just curious if someone can articulate what the “bad look” actually is. I’m not seeing it. Players from all sorts of schools are transferring en masse this year. Tate isn’t nearly as high profile as others.

For me, it's pretty obvious what a bad look is. A bad look doesn't have to rise to the level of being a fiasco. It just has to look bad to the outside, not necessarily to fans of the program who are willing to overlook it, rationalize it, or justify it in their own minds. I'm not saying it's horrible, or it will leave a lasting stain on the program or some BS like that. But it is a bad look.
