QB Rob Schoenhoft (official thread)

"I believe I will get an opportunity to play at Delaware that I never got at Ohio State. No guarantees, but I think I have a great chance. I have no regrets about attending Ohio State. I feel I was given a fair chance, to an extent. Todd won the competition. And he was the best quarerback for Ohio State."
That statement really shows Rob's character... the Blue Hens are getting a stand-up guy who hopefully gets his turn to shine. Good luck Rob.

Let me tell you what I like about Rob Schoenhoft. This kid came to Ohio State a top recruit. Surely, he wanted to play but he was beaten out by a teammate.

Not once have we heard a negative word out of Rob. Not once has he done anything but play his role on this team without question. Even in departure, he has only good words to say about his team, coaches, and the University.

This says something to me about the man that he is and about his chances for success in life.

What I like about Rob Schoenhoft is that he is a class act. In my mind, even if he does finish his college play at Delaware, he will always be a Buckeye.

Rob, we are all sorry to see you go and looked forward to your role outside the QB slot. It is easy to understand why you would want to go somewhere else and run an offense.

You will be missed and respected here always. Well done.

Quite similar to Justin Zwick in many ways.

One change on offense involves quarterback Robby Schoenhoft, who will transfer to the University of Delaware, this season's FCS (Division I-AA) national runner-up, where he can play immediately.
He has two years of eligibility remaining.
"He loved everything about Ohio State, loved the coaching staff, loved the players, the success the program had," said Rob Schoenhoft Sr., Robby's father.
"He was realistic. Todd Boeckman is an All-Big Ten quarterback, so he knew it would be tough to push for playing time next year, leaving Robby one year to compete with Antonio Henton. He didn't want to just play one year in college."

Robby Schoenhoft?s truncated career

By Kyle Nagel | Monday, January 14, 2008, 08:57 PM

Schoenhoft.jpg

One day, Robby Schoenhoft and I went to Wendy?s.
That was 2004, when Schoenhoft was the quarterback at St. Xavier High School and committed at Ohio State. That?s a unique position, being a quarterback playing his senior season in Ohio while people know you?re going to Ohio State.
He was a legitimate 6 feet 6 and 240 pounds, and we had cheeseburgers. We talked about the pressures of his Ohio State commitment, his growth as a quarterback and, for a little bit, his expectations.
?My coach was talking in pre game about dreaming big,? Schoenhoft said that day. ?If you miss, you?ll still go big.?

St. Xavier's Specht helped arrange QB's transfer
BY TOM GROESCHEN | [email protected]

Robby Schoenhoft said Monday he started thinking about transferring from Ohio State around the middle of the 2007 football season.
Schoenhoft, a former St. Xavier quarterback, is transferring to Delaware and will start classes Feb. 11. He has two years of eligibility remaining and can play immediately.
Schoenhoft lost out to Todd Boeckman for the OSU starting job before the start of the 2007 season. Schoenhoft completed 17 of 25 passes for 129 yards (no TDs or interceptions) in limited duty in the '07 season, but he was demoted behind redshirt freshman Antonio Henton before the national title game against LSU.

"I started searching for Division I-AA schools a while ago, probably around midseason, just to see if there were any other options out there," Schoenhoft said. Why Delaware?

Schoenhoft at peace with decision to leave

The Columbus Dispatch

As James Laurinaitis said in deciding to return to Ohio State for his senior season, a guy gets only one shot at college football. Funny, but that's about what quarterback Rob Schoenhoft said the other day when he decided to transfer from OSU to Delaware.

He was beaten out for the starting job at Ohio State by Todd Boeckman last spring. In practices for the national championship game against LSU, the coaches shuffled Schoenhoft to tight end, promoting Antonio Henton to No. 2 quarterback. Plus, the Buckeyes are in strong contention for the nation's top quarterback prospect, Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa.

"I didn't want to wait around and possibly have things happen to me I didn't want to happen," Schoenhoft said. "I wanted to make sure I would play. You know, I haven't really played football in 2 1/2 years. I am excited to get the chance to have the opportunity to lead this Delaware team."

According to NCAA transfer rules, Schoenhoft will be eligible to play for the Blue Hens as a junior this fall because he is moving from Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) to the Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA).

"I am leaving Ohio State on great terms. I will always be a Buckeye. ? But hopefully I found a place in Delaware that's just like it."

There is one problem. The Blue Hens wear winged helmets like those of Michigan.

"It's a lighter blue," Schoenhoft said, laughing. "It's royal blue, not the dark blue like Michigan. There's a big difference."

The 6-6, 240-pound Schoenhoft attended the EA Sports "Elite 11" national quarterback camp just before his senior year at St. X. At the camp, Schoenhoft was voted most likely to lead a college team to a national title.
And now he'll have his shot to do just that. Good luck Rob.

Viedo interview with Robbie

http://gannett.a.mms.mavenapps.net/...istId=playlist&maven_referralObject=693762556

"I still have a lot of football left in me," said the 6-foot-5, 244-pound Mason, Ohio, resident. "I was meant to play quarterback, and a lot of schools would be very happy to have me in their program. I'm lucky I found a good football program here."

His first couple UD practices and some wobbly passes indicated to Schoenhoft and coaches that he had some work ahead of him. Schoenhoft said he developed some bad habits at Ohio State.

"I was opening my shoulders really quick and flailing the ball around," he said. "I got my accuracy back when I closed my shoulders a little bit. I was just chucking the ball at Ohio State. I could do that because I knew the offense so well and knew where the ball needed to go and I was getting it there.

"But when you get in a new offense, you have to be precise on what the drops are, where your feet are ... It's good they've got me going back to the fundamentals, doing some different things with my throwing motion, because you see different results."

His makeover also has included gripping the football and striding differently.

Schoenhoft is eager to improve quickly, he said, because "I don't want to have that first-year learning curve. I don't have time to do that."
