QB Rob Schoenhoft (official thread)

I was talking to a coach who was scouting the DeSales-X game for us, and he said Schoenhoft was a stud, but pretty much echoed the points above, about the lack of talent in the WR corps. Rob had 3 int's in the end zone, but they were all due to the receivers screwing up in some way.

St. Xavier senior quarterback Robbie Schoenhoft is the man with the golden gun.

Big (6 feet 6, 235 pounds) and strong with a cannon arm, Schoenhoft is an Ohio State recruit rated one of America's best.

Moeller senior quarterback Chris Reisert (6-2, 190) is the first to admit he's no Schoenhoft. Reisert's arm is decent. When he throws a spiral, it's news. And if he lands with a Division III college team, great.

But as Moeller (4-0), ranked No. 2 in the Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, visits No. 5 St. Xavier (3-1) in a key Greater Catholic League South league opener tonight, it's Reisert with the big statistics.

Reisert has thrown for 798 yards and 12 touchdowns, with two interceptions. Schoenhoft has thrown for 271 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions) but also has missed 2 1/2 games because of an ankle injury.

All things considered, the two quarterbacks could not be happier for each other.

"I've seen him play, and he's good," Schoenhoft said of Reisert. "Anybody who can throw for 400 yards on Louisville St. Xavier is good."
Reisert threw for a school-record 437 yards and five touchdowns when Moeller beat Louisville St. Xavier 43-21 Sept. 5.

Schoenhoft also started quickly, with a 73-yard touchdown pass on his first throw of the season. But he sprained an ankle that day and missed two games before returning for last week's 47-10 rout of Westerville North.

"He's a great player, and hats off to him for a great career," Reisert said of Schoenhoft. "But honestly, it's not me against him. I'm thinking more about facing their defense."

Schoenhoft has similar thoughts, remembering St. Xavier's 10-9 loss to Moeller last year. He was sacked at a key point late in that game.

"I've got a picture of that play," Schoenhoft said. "It's the screensaver on my computer and my phone, just to remind me."

Schoenhoft completed just 37 percent of his passes last year and is hitting 43 percent this year. St. X coaches say the inaccuracy is a combination of dropped passes and Schoenhoft's eagerness to make plays, with Bombers receivers sometimes unable to snare his fastballs.

"I've told Robbie, 'God threw a lightning bolt down on you when he gave you that arm,' " St. Xavier coach Steve Specht said. "He's working on his composure and patience, and he's getting much better."

Schoenhoft is the No. 6-rated prep quarterback in America by TheInsiders.com recruiting Web site. He committed to Ohio State over the summer.

"I don't care about stats," Schoenhoft said. "The only thing that matters to me is the 'W.' People can talk about me as much as they want, but if we win I'm happy."

X beat Moeller tonight. Robbie threw the game winning TD pass with seconds left in the game. When we were recruiting Robbie people questioned his completion percentage. I told everyone the receivers were bad now people got a chance to see up close.

Rob Schoenhoft showed Friday night why he is rated one of the best prep quarterbacks in America.

The St. Xavier senior led his team on a game-winning drive in the final minutes, throwing the winning touchdown with 13 seconds left as the Bombers beat Moeller 35-31 in a thriller at St. X.

Schoenhoft, off a play-action fake, hit tight end Kyle Gibler with a 2-yard TD pass to decide it. That made it 34-31, and John Milligan's extra point made it 35-31.

Schoenhoft, who has committed to Ohio State and is widely ranked as one of the top 10 prep quarterbacks in the U.S., was still trying to gather his thoughts in the on-field mob scene afterward. He marched the Bombers 64 yards over the final 3:22 of play. Overall he completed 11 of 18 passes for 143 yards, two TDs and an interception.

"Unbelievable," Schoenhoft said. "We've worked too hard for too long to lose this one. Our offensive line was unbelievable, my receivers made great catches. And we ran the ball great."

St. Xavier's Chris Cionni rushed 40 times for 205 yards, caught two passes for 45 yards and scored three times.

Moeller started its final drive on its 6-yard line. With one play left, the Crusaders tried a hook-and-ladder pass. Chris Reisert hit Tyler Dierkers, who flipped the ball to a trailing Pat Watt. Watt was run out of bounds at his own 35-yard line as time expired.

A sellout crowd of 8,000 watched at St. Xavier. The stadium seats 6,500, and about 1,500 standing-room tickets were sold, as the city's No. 5-ranked Bombers rallied to beat the No. 2 Crusaders in a big Greater Catholic League South game.

"There's not much to say," Moeller coach Bob Crable said. "I thought we showed a lot of character coming back."

Moeller roared back after trailing 28-9 after three periods. Reisert completed 24 of 39 passes for 341 yards, three TDs (all in the fourth period) and was intercepted three times.

Moeller went ahead 31-28 on a 64-yard TD pass from Reisert to Justin Smith with 3:27 left, the ball being caught after a Bombers defender tipped it.

St. X coach Steve Specht was thrilled for Schoenhoft, who had missed two games this year with a sprained ankle.

"People can talk about stats all they want, but like Robbie said, it's all about winning," Specht said. "We're 4-1, and that's all that matters. I love that kid, and he showed tonight how good he is. Heck, this whole team did the job. I have a great staff and great players, and I want to emphasize that."

St. Xavier built a 14-9 lead by halftime, after falling behind 6-0.

Schoenhoft threw a 29-yard TD pass to Cionni and scored on a 9-yard run in the first half.

Moeller chopped its deficit to 14-9 on a 28-yard field goal by Mike Carter as the first half ended.

Cionni rushed 17 times for 105 yards in the first half alone.

Moeller visits La Salle next week, while St. Xavier travels to Elder.

Robbie has been recruiting for us big time. He spoke to Amos the week before he committed and he has been calling McCoy, Rouse, Doering, King, Daniels, Felder, Lymon and D. Williams. In his words, "I've talked to a lot of the big boys".

WOW!! Ya gotta love this. That is three kids (Robbie, Boone and Denlinger) that have really tried to help this class. Boone and Denlinger helped with Worthington.

scUM is still recruiting him but he says he is "110% to tOSU". :)

He has been to all Buckeye home games. The coaches have told him that he will redshirt his first year.

Who Knows?

You never know this kid could be great or he could just be a descent backup for some stud Junior they pick-up next year. The Bucks always have talented players with interest in them. Schoenhoft is a solid recruit... did anyone complain when we had little Joe Germaine back there and he never scrambled. So whats having a giant with a cannon who doesn't have alot of speed. I think people should be happy with what you got and don't bring Stull up with this kid. Schoenhoft could throw Stull 50 yds with that cannon.

WORD! I bet we get one of those guys we wouldn't without Rob. That, to me, makes him one of my favorite recruits.. not only does he want to be a Buckeye, he wants EVERYONE to be a Buckeye. I don't think we have much of a chance with Williams, Rouse, Doering or King, but I think that McCoy, Daniels, Felder and Lymon have to be thinking "this guy isn't even there yet and he's already trying to sell us on it? He's gotta love it."

I predict we get at least one of those guys from his pressure getting them to take a visit, and loving it.

Sounds like another solid recent recruit we had. I seem to recall he helped us land some kids that resulted in the no. 2 ranked class that year. Here's hoping he has the same affect that Zwick did.

From an earlier post on this thread by Buckeye Dan on page 16.

Rob Schoenhoft
In terms of pure upside, Schoenhoft is up there with just about anyone at the camp
Arm strength was second behind only Perriloux
Release and timing on his passes is even better
Moves well for a big quarterback
Made bigger strides in the classroom and with some of his mechanics than any signal caller at the camp
Developed a tired arm earlier than just about anyone - Due to not using anything other than his arm to throw
Coaches worked on him using his legs and being on balance - His throws improved dramatically
Very committed to learning - Became one of the best in the group in the chalk sessions
Ohio State should be very excited to see Schoenhoft as he has more talent right now than any other signal caller on the roster

Rob was voted the most improved player at the camp.

Is Schoenhoft's phone still ringing?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bill Kurelic
Rivals100.com Recruiting Analyst Rivals.comQuarterback Rob Schoenhoft committed to Ohio State during the summer. Does that mean phone calls from recruiters from other schools have stopped?

Anyone with a Rivals subscription care to share a very basic breakdown of this article? Saw it this morning (looking for links) and it's got me curious.
