QB Rob Schoenhoft (official thread)

Just saw the video, too. I've seen a bit more on Shoenhoft than the video since I live in Cincy. He comes across to me like a guy that can see the whole field, but he doesn't react fast enough. I like the fact that he looks off the first target alot but I haven't been all that impressed with his decision making after the first look. First look throws are great, though. Reminds me alot of Leftwich with his mechanics and scrambling. Leftwich was very raw coming into Marshall. Rob seems to have the natural ability on his side and he'll have 2 seasons to fine tune everything. I like what I'm seeing so far, especially his willingness to bull over the defenders and look around a bit before throwing.

His arm strength is in the top 5% of most HS senior QB's. That's gonna be huge when he learns how to pick his throws better.

update on Shoenhoft's injury from this weekend

SCHOENHOFT UPDATE: St. Xavier quarterback Rob Schoenhoft sprained his right ankle and strained his Achilles' tendon in Saturday's 23-17 loss to Lakewood St. Edward.

Schoenhoft, who has committed to Ohio State, is day-to-day and hopes to play Friday vs. Indianapolis Cathedral.

"He should be fine, but we're not going to rush him," St. X coach Steve Specht said Sunday.

Schoenhoft threw a 73-yard TD pass on the Bombers' first play Saturday, but finished just 4-of-11 passing for 89 yards. He was hurt when sacked early in the third quarter, and left the game.

"He's got to work on his composure and patience," Specht said. "With the talent and the arm he has, he can afford to be more patient than most. He's learning that."

The X offensive line was horrible. Rob was hurried on almost every pass attempt and had no chance on the play he was injured. There was a play after he went down where the backup QB was under pressure by at least four Ed's players before he even got a three step drop. He got no help to say the least. The WR's were almost as bad (and slow) as what we heard when his numbers (or lack thereof) from last year were being discussed. On his TD pass, the receiver was caught from behind by at least 15 yards. The DB punched the ball out and in the most perfect bounce, the ball landed back in his hands just short of the goal line for the score. It was play worthy of making SportsCenter's top 10 of the week.

sounds like missing game time could actually help..
your desription of the line brings to mind the Browns... and Couch running for his life...
and descriptions of his receivers brings back memories of the Tampa Bay Bucs with Vinnie.. they couldn't catch a pass to save their lives either...

we should ask the coaches to keep him out and save him from further harm

One coach sent Robby a note of congratulations but added, "If you decide down the line you might want to throw the ball a little more in college, give us a call."

Yeah, too bad we've been throwing the ball over 30 times for over 280 yards a game. What QB would want to play in an offense like that? :roll1:

can someone provide an update about Rob?

wasn't he hurt a couple weeks ago?

Rob suffered a high ankle sprain in St. X's opener against St. Ed's. He has not played in the last two games. He says he is a definite to play this weekend. He could have played last weekend but the HC was playing it safe.

South is much better than North. They played each other last week and South won 44-14. I think North is playing a little better this year (2-1 so far) than last year (3-7) but they are a long way from competing with the likes of South and St. X. I anticpate St. X will win this game easily.

Well I went to see Robbie last night. Two things i would like to point out, Westerville North is not very good (being polite), and thanks to the meninigitas deaths no one was there.

I saw him warm up and he seemed pretty gimpy hoobling a little bit. He threw a very tight spiral ball with a high release point. Once the game had started he showed up with a ankle brace, which was quickly spatted over and then after St. x's first poss the other ankle was spatted.

This kid has decent speed and good mechanics, BUT his footwork is terrible he only set his feet 3 or 4 times (all completions), his coaches would sprint him out and run guys deep leaving him throwing across his body 30, 40, 50 yards down field on a dead run. These balls were not caught, but on a saturday i would have been all over the wrs. They never ran come backs or curls which is what i expected with robbie sitting in the pocket. Though he has the armstrength to throw the out to the far side of the field from the opposite hashes (he acctaully over throw it once on a dead line), also had the vision and field presence to check down to his 2nd and 3rd options (very rare in hs)

He didnt get to throw much bc the game was never in question, also had a rushing td along with his td pass, my guess would be about 50% on 16 passes for 175

From what i saw he is a real good player who may be too good for his peers, he doesnt have anybig time skill players who have good hands, everyone of his balls was catchable by a d 1 caliber player, he under/over threw a few balls but if there werent 5 9 pimply kids out there who knows what he would have done, unlike brady quinn he didnt have other big time talent like neduwke and such.

size wise he was the tallest player out there and very physical, i would say his height is pretty close to legit bc he was almost as tall as myself

overall real solid player, but needs some coaching and technique work and will get it with atleast 2 years at osu before he plays
