QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

My understanding is that he left because his father presented an ultimatum that he be the guaranteed starter. He got his answer and everyone wished him well.

If you look only at the NCAA total passing yards stat (McCord #1, Howard #26) you might regret Day's decision. Then there is NCAA passing efficiency (Howard #3, McCord #37), passing TDs (McCord #4, Howard #9). There also is the much weaker strength of schedule McCord faced and the fact that Syracuse was a pass first, 93 yds rushing a game team.

Again, I wish him well, but Kyle McCord did just about as well as one might expect at Syracuse. With the exception of the TCUN game, which is in those stat comparisons, Howard appeared to me to be a better quarterback in the Ohio State offense this year.

Just sayin': Kyle McCord was a 5 star QB recruit in 2021. In hindsight he was probably a little over rated and/or just didn't have as high a ceiling that many other 5 star QBs have had. Maybe his stats were inflated due to having a 4 star receiver that was definitely underrated. He gave it his all at Ohio State and waited his turn to play. He never became a "Troy Smith" type of QB that could put the team on his back and carry them to victory. He was the type of QB who usually was just able to put the team in position to win and let the other "playmakers" do their thing to actually win the game. Ohio State wanted to upgrade the QB1 position in 2024; and he was told that he would have to compete with others to secure his spot as QB1 again in 2024. I'm not sure that his father helped his situation any at Ohio State either. He eventually transferred to Syracuse and actually left with "class" in not trying to trash the Ohio State program. He had a decent year at Syracuse, didn't have to compete much to be their QB1, and probably got a real good NIL package (more than what he would have received at Ohio State) too. I ass/u/me he was happy there too. Just maybe Syracuse was a better fit for him than Ohio State; i.e. fewer big games, less pressure to win, and much lower bar for a successful season.

Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord has accepted an invitation to play in one of the featured showcases for players hoping to be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. McCord will play in the 100th East-West Shrine Bowl on January 30 in Dallas.

I doubt that McCord will have much of a NFL; but I'm sure a lot of people said that about Brock Purdy (i.e. Mr. Irrelevant) too, so you never know.

Regardless I hope he is coming away with a college degree and I wish him well.

I can't disagree, but, man, is it getting hard to hold my tongue. Dude quit on OSU, that's a fact. Then there's the constant news about his every move in OSU media. I won't root against him, but I'll be damned if I root for him.

Congrats to Kyle. 10th in the Heisman voting.

Happy for Kyle, but some perspective on his season

But in his defense some of those back shoulder fades he was throwing in the bowl game and deep shots would have been off last year. A freak like Marv might have still caught them but they would have cost yards compared today. He got better for sure. Just not as much better as the yardage numbers would indicate
