QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

Herbstreit definitely changed after the pictures of him jumping up and down on the sidelines with Eddie George at the 2002 national title game surfaced - he took a lot of heat for that.

However, Herbstreit often goes too far in his criticism of the Buckeyes - a few years back when he said that no offensive recruit should want to play in our offense on a nationally broadcast Saturday night game. What in the heck was he thinking? That's not appropriate on any level. Should recruits go to a dirty program instead? One that runs the spread, scores a lot of points, and doesn't prepare its student athletes for the NFL game? There's a lot to love about the current Buckeye program. We do things the right way. We should not have an alumnus in such a position of influence telling recruits on national TV not to go to his alma mater.

Agreed

While running the spread and scoring a lot of points did not seem to hurt Percy or a number of other recent NFL Gators, and while the obvious merits of participating in an ethical programs are, well - obvious  - your point about that statement is correct. There is no f-ing excuse for that comment.

...and  at the "gator wannabe" tag

and just for the record (and I wish I would have saved it) there was a picture in 2003 of Herbie decked out in Maize and Blue, wearing an M for Moron hat and yucking it up with the scUM band.

He made the list at that point in my little world. What the fuck does that have to do with coming across unbiased? It was just an early indicator of his propensity to chug man meat.

Talk about hyperbole.

I used to never have a problem with Herbie. The recruiting comment flipped me to the other side.

Then the "apology" interview with Pat McGroin really [censored]ed me off. Maybe TP will get an "apology" spot on gameday next week as well.

TP won a road game in a tough atmosphere when nothing was going the Buckeyes way (questionable calls, no calls, the dropsies). I don't think anyone expected us to go out there and drop 40 on them and walk out with Bauserman taking a knee.

Even with his "poor performance" last night, I am a bigger TP fan than ever. Plus I have a feeling he was hurting a lot more that second half than anybody knows.

I'd like to point out Terrelle's comment didn't just come out of thin air. It's fairly obvious Terrelle's sentiment is shared by others in the program. It's not like Terrelle caught wind of Kirk dogging him one time and let loose on Twitter.

I'd rather he didn't do it because it does nothing to help our program and will likely just add to the anti-Big 10/OSU hatred ESPN already has.

Herbstreit is actually a pretty poor commentator as well. I'm not sure why so many think he's great just b/c he gets the booth in primetime games. I can count on 2 hands how many times he's talked about pass interference for face guarding, talking about the clock running when players go out of bounds so it isn't a big deal if they step out (which is technically incorrect), and other stupid commentary where he shows a general lack of understanding of the game. I think his opinions are very generic for the most part, but when he makes ridiculous comments going overboard to not sound biased I just laugh at this point.

This thread is so funny, it's like watching a clock pendulum.

It's hate, hate, hate, hate, slight disdain, slight disdain, indifference, tolerance, tolerance, love, love, love.

Then reverse and repeat. I'm sure there's some sociological explanation for it, but it sure is interesting.

We can debate whether Herbie is a "real" Buckeye due to his life on both sides of that fence or whether a certain young man's behavior was over the line last night and perhaps unsettling the tempo of Ohio State's offense.

But, damn it, let's not do it during the week of The Game.

GO BUCKEYES! BEAT MICHIGAN!

Ya know, I'm not the only one who thinks Herbie is an self-important douche bag. I think he goes too far when dogging the Bucks, thats JMO. Herbie may have played here, but I feel there are people on this board who bleed more than he does.

I do think he's fake, ask the folks in UA they know what I'm talking about. But whatever, he's a Buckeye I'll defend him against all non-Buckeyes.

give me a break... The guy brings his kids on the stage decked in OSU gear, played at OSU, grew up worshiping OSU, has an OSU cheerleader for a wife, and has been seen flipping out on the sidelines when we play. Infact I admire the guy because If I was in his position I would've been fired from ESPN a long time ago for being so blinded by my love for OSU. The fact that he's able to seperate his love for OSU with his job is very proffessional and impressive. There's probably not a bigger OSU fan than Herbia and to be honest he's probably overly critical of the buckeyes because he wants to see them do well so badly that he over states things. I do much of the same unfortunately from time to time...

As for his recruiting comment... Again he was probably so disappointed in how his alma mater was playing that he said something that he shouldn't have, but to call Kirk a Fake Buckeye is a absolute joke. TP needs to realize that while he turned it on in the end of the game that his game yesterday was once again average at best against a good defense. Besides I thought him and Herbie were good friends and relatively close?? Herbie had a right to say what he said because I was thinking the same things yesterday and TP had no grounds to say what he said... However, he's young, and he'll make mistakes... I hope for TP's sake that Herbie can forgive him and move forward.

I do agree that TP was outta line with what he said. I would think a Twitter ban will be fourthcoming very soon. This will not make Tress very happy.

But I just can't get way Herbie gets the way he gets when we don't fuck somebody up. We play in the Big Ten, we play good teams. We are about to go to a BCS bowl six years in a row. What is there to complain about?

Do you think this was something TP came up with by himself, or do you think its a prevalent feeling in the locker-room? My guess is it's the latter, and it spilled over to twitter which is unfortunate.

It'd be better if their feelings towards him didn't spill into public forums. It'd be better for everyone if it was kept behind closed doors.

I was saying before the Penn State game that I was surprised JT didn't ban twitter. I agree with TP, but it doesn't make it right to post on Twitter. Herbie can say whatever he wants. But it was such a great story when Pat McGroin called out Herbie, but not so much with TP.
