A lot of water over the dam in last 9 years. I don't think anyone doubts his loyalties...Just my 2¢ worth: Herbstreit is an "on the air" and/or "in front of the camera" ESPN employee. He is a cross between an actor and a commentator. I'm sure they require him to have a certain look and express their "corporate line". I'm also sure to get it right, they have wardrobe people, makeup people, and hair stylists as well as hours and hours of production meetings, etc. Herbstreit probably likes his job, likes the notoriety that goes with it, and especially likes the high 6 figure salary that comes with it. Like almost all of the jobs that all of us have had, you do it the company's way or you get fired. I would bet that his private persona is totally different, he is a real Ohio State fan, etc. here's an example:
Kirk Herbstreit Defends “The Photo”
"When I’m on the air, I would challenge anybody to watch me when I do a game and try to figure out what school I went to. When I’m off the air … I’m an Ohio State fan. Sorry. I went to school there, I was a captain there, my kids wear their Ohio State jerseys almost everyday. They wake up singing the fight song. We’re an Ohio State family. [About the photo] I wasn’t on the air, I’m going to go crazy. My work speaks for itself."

...to the SEC. Who has Ohio State played? Well, who the hell has Alabama played? Any crap this week because Bama and Georgia play FCS schools? No. There won't be a word. I'd take Iowa against Miss State too.
This whole thing started when the B10 outclassed the SEC overall in the bowl season (but no one cared because the prizefight went the other way big time). It hasn't lost steam despite everyone besides Bama forgetting how to play football for seasons on end. The SEC has become the mid 00s B1G, except with Bama as an unparalleled dynasty so no one looks behind the curtain of the others.Bama and, to a lesser degree, the rest of the SEC do.
Yeah, the MSU that lost bowls to Northwestern and Georgia Tech in its last five years and beat bloody Miami of Ohio by only 1 point in a bowl last year. They really do show up, as losers! The same Iowa that was crushed in successive bowl games (2017 Florida 30-3, 2016 Stanford 45-16) ?
Let face it - the Big Ten, outside of Ohio State, does not consistently show up in big games or in bowl games.
Bama and, to a lesser degree, the rest of the SEC do. Similarly, Alabama can play FCS schools and still be ranked highly because they're a proven commodity. The Big Ten has not earned that same deference, at least not yet.

I'm asking for some sanity. I want people to stop evaluating the non alabama teams based on Alabama results.1) Last year, OSU was absolutely embarrassed on a national stage, scUM lost in surprising fashion to FSU, and PSU lost the last major Big Ten bowl game to USC. The year before, MSU and Iowa were both embarrassed big time in the Big Ten's two biggest bowl games.
I'll agree that the SEC is not the untouchable conference they're made out to be. But I have absolutely zero faith in a non-OSU Big Ten team winning a major bowl game, and I won't until I am given a reason to. We've been let down one too many times over the past decade by our conference brethren.
2) Complaining about Alabama being ranked highly for playing powderpuffs and FCS schools is silly. Alabama and Nick Saban have 110% earned the benefit of the doubt - there's no arguing that.

Not untouchable is incredibly favorable.
LSU is trash.
UF and Tenn are worse than trash.
The Aggies are about to fire their coach.
Georgia has underachieved wildly for a decade. Maybe they'll fix that but haven't yet.
Auburn is a sexier Wisconsin. They just got a much different caliber of qb rental a half decade ago.
Exactly why I don't mind him.. he's in an impossible spot.A lot of water over the dam in last 9 years. I don't think anyone doubts his loyalties...

That crap is old. His kids aren't running around in Buckeye jerseys and he's not singing the fight song.
I've never had a problem with the guy. I like listening to him and Ian's podcast as well..I have just never heard him say anything bashing Ohio State or blowing the SEC.Exactly why I don't mind him.. he's in an impossible spot.
Seen as an unabashed buckeye by the country and most of buckeye nation hates the guy... he can't win.
go back and read this thread, they are listed over and over and over again..I've never had a problem with the guy. I like listening to him and Ian's podcast as well..I have just never heard him say anything bashing Ohio State or blowing the SEC.
