QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

I prob said this 5 years ago, but I guess it deserves repeating....

Herbie is the perfect commentator for the casual fan who just happens to tune in on a Saturday night. He speaks in cliche, isn't nuanced at all, and just in general, speaks to the "non diehard" fan.

If you LOVE college football and live and breath it.....He's the worst. His knowledge on the telecast is suspect, he uses cliche to hide in depth analysis, and Todd Bkackledge makes him look like an amateur.

I'm still unsure as to why Blackledge continues to get that #2 spot in their pecking order, but Blackledge is the best in the business for college. Honestly, I think they view Todd as too technical and as a guy who doesn't connect with that wide ranging audience they have in Saturday night prime time.

But if you're here reading this message board....you are already outside ESPN's casual target. We aren't who ESPN is trying to appease. It's our wives and friends who have no idea who is in our next recruiting class, and have no idea we switched offensive coordinators this off-season.

And the strategy makes sense....they know they have the die-hard in their back pocket. It's more about how do you draw a new audience and keep/appease them. Ken the Barbie Doll works much better than a true analyst who gives great insight and adds another dimension to the telecast through experience and articulation.

See I disagree about one thing.. I'm a diehard football fan, played college ball, and understand the intricacies of x and o talk then the majority of fans but I prefer herbie over most.

I like Todd though and honestly don't prefer either one over the other. I guess with me I just am not looking for explanations on why teams do this or that. I know a lot about the game and I don't watch games for analyst insight. Give me someone who speaks clearly, confidently, and has good humor. Which I feel Herbie does (so does Todd) and is why I like him calling our games.

Plus if Herbstreit is calling our games that means we got a prime time slot game which is sweet. Side note went back and watched the Army game and poor AJ Hawk struggled a bit with his broadcasting. You could tell his adrenaline was going because his voice kinda sounded labored. I like him on the radio though so hopefully he gets more chances

Playing for Ohio State does not give him a pass for being a colossal douche.

Yep, and I'd add "sanctimonious" to that description. He can't seem to start any radio or TV spot without a reminder of why he's a better person than everyone else. It usually begins with something to the effect of, "I don't know about everyone else, but I'm a big __________________ guy," (and the blank is filled in with some virtue). The facade is all the more ridiculous when you consider this is coming from a guy in his late 40s who gets into childish Twitter fights with teenagers.

He is from Centerville, after all.. Not everyone from there is like this, but a good number of them are.

This is perfect.

Exactly. IMO, he's a disgrace to us other alums who love the University (intentional choice of words--not the football team, but the school), and are not one of those who step on it, the football team, and its team members, in order to achieve personal gain because he has no other skills and couldn't otherwise find any semblance of success.

He literally put Mike Brewster's name on blast during tattgate with zero evidence. When proven wrong, he made no public apology.

He did, however, publicly suck McGroin's weenis after saying he didn't have moxie.

Fake ass Buckeye. Fake as hell.

Yup, if he hadn't lost me by then, when he threw out Mike like that... I was beyond done with the guy.

He was throwing Tress under the bus long before tatgate, with his I would never let my sons play for him bs. I'm sure his daddy is proud of him....
