QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

After Fowler mentions Pryor and red flags:
"Get ready for Maurice Clarett the sequel." -Kirk Herbstreit, espn radio.

Someone want to step up and defend that gem from a few months ago? They got their phone calls, so it was a win-win for the radio station. :smash:Exactly. I commend him on securing and maintaining a tremendous job and opportunity, and part of that could be being asked to wear lots of contradictory hats for the sake of ratings.

But I'm still going to call a spade a spade.

Personally, and maybe I'm way off base here, but I don't see the problem with that statement. That comparison was made in the Rumor Mill here on multiple occasions. There is (or was) a lot of fear regarding whether the Pryor saga would turn into something like the Clarett saga. I don't think Herbie was trying to compare Pryor to Clarett, I think he was trying to compare the media coverage and potential for circus acts that would come with Pryor.

Eh, we all make mistakes and certainly Kirk has stuck his foot in his mouth a few times, but it doesn't make him any less a Buckeye. It's obvious where his heart is, and where I live in SEC country, it's noticed all the time. So, allowing for mistakes that anyone in this much spotlight is going to be examined for, he just seems like a guy who's attempting to remain as unbiased as possible. Oh well. If you don't like him...so be it. I'm glad he's there because I enjoy his commentary and I enjoy how Fowler, Corso and Herbstreit get along. I take the games WAAAAY too seriously so I'm always thankful for what they bring to the table to keep me from losing my mind.

Herbie isn't doing one thing different than any of you would if you had his 6 figure job so stuff it.

Please.

I'd do one thing different. I'd state my actual opinions, not say one thing on ESPN and somethings different for local Columbus media. I have no doubt that he's a Buckeye fan and I don't care if he bashes OSU if he believes what he's saying, but don't bash to the nation than ki$$ a$$ for the local yokels (and I have little doubt that he views most of the OSU faithful in Columbus as yokels). that's been my problem with him for years.

Yeah, if they changed the definition of "blue collar" to what "pretty boy prima donna" used to mean.

If you're referring to football then you don't know what you're talking about.

Herbie was one hell of a tough QB in HS. He could take (and deliver) a hit better than any other signal called I played against in HS or college.

As with about 99.9% of the posters here, I never played against him in HS or college. I'm referring strictly to his "look" and style. He's a pretty boy.

My main issue with him started with the picture he took decked out in piss and blue, yucking it up with the scUM band. There is simply no need for that. None.

His willingness to slob any knob his ESPN handlers tell him to, I find just simply revolting. The over the top hyperbole fest of the past few years has been the icing on the cake.

Too many other guys find the balance between their analyst/commentator job and their alumn status for me to buy the "impossible task" excuse.

That his style is different from others probably has something to do with his enormous popularity. But, like anyone else, he can't win 'em all. He'll obviously never win back your faith/trust.

Undoubtedly you will NEVER see Chris Spielman yukkin it up with scUM anything.

Of course, Spielman will never be the espn mouthpiece Herby is. Herbstreit gets tons of fan mail for Christ sakes every week. He's more of a tv star than profound analyst, however, I have no doubts in his football knowledge one bit. Espn has found a guy who looks good behind the mic, will tow the company line, speak from an experienced standpoint about football and help make them a shitload of money. Even though I hate most of the pundits and media coverage of all sports in general, College Gameday is one of the most watched news specials on any channel in the entire country if not world. I for one will still tune in because I'm addicted to the Buckeyes. Even if people are going to bad mouth them I'll still watch because I'm terribly proud of my school and my school's football team! Any chance I get to see even a glimpse of Ohio State football, you can bet your ass I'm gonna watch it!

I suspect many of you are in the same boat as me. Someone grab a paddle and cut Herbie a little slack.

We just have to accept Herbie for what he is at this point. I actually get pleasantly surprised when he talks positive about Ohio State. I just expect him to go negative on Ohio State and the Big Ten at this point. Is he Mark May?, no...but he also isn't Spiels.

No way is that true. No way in hell......

I think it's true, but I don't have a problem with it, seeing as how I agree with this statement...I'm embarrassed by at least half of the Buckeye "fans" that I see on campus on Saturdays. Ugh. On the other hand, the fans I see at the away games are all class. Go to Lane avenue on a gameday Saturday and just watch the morons that stumble around...it's disgusting. There is good reason tOSU's football fan base is hated across the nation. Still, though, the other half of the fans are nothing but loyal, die-hard Buckeyes who (respectfully and honorably) cheer for their team.

Hell yea, I'll agree with him that there are more than a few idiot fans or 'yokels'. It's one of the drawbacks to having a great team for the last 5 or so years. The jumpers get on, act like idiots on message boards and to visiting fans.

They're the same dipshits that get so pissed any time someone says something negative about the team. Again, who cares?

Well, I guess it depends on the context of the statement. What did he say after that statement? Was he comparing Pryor to Mo C as a trouble maker and 'crooked' like your quote seems to imply ?
