QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Brain with a Lunatic Fringe)

Anyone still have the pic from '03 in which the former OSU captain is decked out in yellow and blue, wearing a block M hat and hamming it up with scUM's band?

Anyone ever seen a picture of Spielman like that? They are both after all employed by the same company which makes me ask questions of the "its just his job" crowd.

There's a line between being unbiased for your paycheck and the over fellating of other schools. If that pic and this past Rose Bowl didn't clearly demonstrate that Herbie doesn't know the difference(or actually enjoys the fellating) I'm not sure what else to say.

Best post in this thread. I've long thought that Herbie went too far out of his way to look unbiased towards OSU. I understand that he wants to be respected as a broadcaster, but that doesn't mean you can't have some pride for your alma mater.

Herbstreit is better than most of his peers but I have to agree, he has never found the right approach to dealing with his past on the air. I wish he'd talk to Clark Kellogg. I think Kellogg does a fantastic job of embracing his school but still maintaining professionalism and providing fairly objective commentary.

I think it's great to see a Buckeye advancing on the national stage like Kirk. The animosity some show towards him is silly. His job is to be a national analyst, not an OSU cheerleader, and he does it well.

Agreed. I think Herbie is the best college football analyst on TV. Too many idiots don't understand what his job demands.

One criticism I do have though is that he is very thin skinned. To often Herbie tries to explain himself which is an impossible task when your critics are the likes of Gator Greg, Trojan Ted or Buckeye Brian. Don't get me started on the whole Les Miles to Michigan story.....stick with your sources and don't worry about it Herbie!!!!, you're doing your job. Trying to answer your critics is like spitting into the wind.....forget about it.

In a way, I feel sorry for his three boys and the family. He really is in a no-win situation. Bristol CT is probably the only place he could go and live for his family to have a half normal life. If he moved to Florida, he wouldn't be able to say anything about those teams without his kids hearing about what an ass his dad was then that probably goes for most other states. The only school he has to worry about up in Bristol would be UConn. I know that he was born and raised a Buckeye and I think deep down he probably still is but he really has to do what is best for his family.

Maybe his family wants to move to Connecticut. They could feel smothered in C-bus. Just a thought.

This has nothing to do with what the local fans think of him, it is about the amount of time he spends up there working and away from his family. the only option that allows him to be with his family more is to bring them up to where he spends most of his time.

If I lived in Florida and worked in Ohio, I'd move my family with me. That's just how it works. The reaction to this by some people is unreal.
The reaction of many Buckeye fans to Herbstreit has always struck me as unreal. The fact he has some objectivity about the Bucks has been validation for these bozos to regard him as the Antichrist. :roll2:
