QB Kenny "the old righty" Guiton (WR Coach Wisconsin)

What is there NOT to like about KG? I would not be surprised to see him as a tOSU Grad Assistant after he graduates. Urban is quoted as saying "he would be a great coach" and I could see Urban giving him an opportunity to gain experience and build a resume.

I would honestly be shocked if this didn't happen. I could see Kenny trying to catch on with a pro team, and if he does, awesome, but I really believe his future probably lies in coaching sooner rather than later.

Guiton stars in place of Miller; Ohio State handles Aztecs
CBSSports.com wire reports
Sep. 7, 2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Sounding like a grizzled manager referring to his shut-down relief pitcher, Urban Meyer called Kenny Guiton "the old right-hander."

Come to think of it, maybe Guiton is No. 3 Ohio State's closer.
He took over when Braxton Miller left with a sprained left knee, running for one touchdown and passing for two on Saturday while keeping the Buckeyes right on task with a 42-7 victory against San Diego State.

The win extended the nation's longest winning streak to 14 in a row.

"The old right-hander steps in again," Meyer said with a grin. "He really did a nice job. He's too slow, not strong-enough armed and all he does is lead, manage, distribute and has an incredible knowledge of the game. And incredible leadership skills.

"And our players respond."

Miller watched the last three quarters from the sideline after being sandwiched between two tacklers on the Buckeyes' seventh offensive play. The Buckeyes (2-0) didn't need him.

"I think I've heard coach Meyer say he's as good a backup quarterback as there is in the country," said a frustrated Rocky Long, coach of the Aztecs (0-2). "I don't know how they decide which one starts, to be honest with you. They're both of them very good players."

Re: He realizes he is an insurance policy in case starter Braxton Miller goes down.

Kenny could easily be the 2nd most important player on the team (and he isn't a starter). In any game, if you can't field a competent QB you don't have a very good chance of winning the game; and against a very good team, you basically have no chance.

:osu:

Maybe I was wrong here (above), Kenny might just be THE MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER on the team.

Wasn't there someone on this board who openly questioned Guiton's selection as a captain just because he's not a starter? Now you know why this guy will be a season captain at the end of the year...

It was a very impressive performance. The Buckeyes are lucky to have KG on the team. I suspect that he just might start next week against Cal, who might just have more up their sleeve than they showed today.

OK, I'll ask again, Why, when freshman QB Braxton Miller went down in the Nebraska game with the bucks holding a nice lead, was Kenny G. left holding the headset while Joltin' Joe Bauserman was sent in? I'd read that Kenny G. was impressive in practice as a frosh, saw him perform well in the spring game, heard more praise for his practice skills that fall... and then he gets passed over in a critical game.

Anyone in a position to know who, or why, that call was made?

I'm not in a postion to know, but I would speculate that the reasons we went with Bauserman are:
1. Previous regime tended to defer to upperclassen in game situations, to a fault
2. Kenny G wasn't really on the radar in 2011... he started to got everybody's attention last year early during the Miami game and for real during the Purdue game

This kid is great on the field and off and could be starting for half the BCS schools in the country. It says a lot about his character and perspective and love of Ohio State that he didn't transfer out just because of football.

Kids like him are why--despite the deluge of Manziels and illiterates and thugs and rapists that blacken the sport--I can never truly give up on college football.
