QB Kenny "the old righty" Guiton (WR Coach Wisconsin)

No disrespect to Mr. Guiton, but talk about his abilities along any spectrum would be quite premature at this point.

""He's got a little glow about him," Tressel said. "He's got a neat personality and he'll be a good leader. I thought he threw the ball well today. His accuracy needs to get better, and he needs to get stronger, as all freshmen do, but I've been very pleased.""

So is Coach Tressel being premature about talking about his abilities? I was making a comment on other peoples comments back in june when they were saying things like...
"Guiton is a project who probably won't be ready to see the field for 2-3 years at least,"
"He also thinks Guiton could be more fit to be a WR than QB, only in emergency cases."
"You don't go through a season with only 2 or 3 QB's, one being average at best in Guiton."
"Guiton will never play QB here unless someone gets hurt and we have no other options. Guiton is an athlete who will play WR. "

All of these comments were before he even stepped on the field.

When talking about an incoming Freshman quarterback - absolutely.

I am not knocking the kid and I completely agree that some of the earlier comments were harsh, unjustified, and ... premature.

For the record, I was in attendance at the first practice in which the 2002 recruiting class participated at OSU (a Freshman only practice at the time). I watched JT spend close to half an hour working one on one with Justin Zwick while Troy Smith was working with the receivers.

I am not anxious to create expectations of any sort for Guiton just yet.

I agree. I am not labeling him the heir apparent to Terrell Pryor. I have no expectations of him beating out Bauserman as the backup as a freshman. I also do not want people thinking he has walkon ability and will get passed over when Graham steps on campus.

So what Oh8ch is clearly trying to say is that, as a QB, Guiton is ahead of Troy Smith at this point in his Buckeye career.

Perhaps. I'm not sure why we are having this discussion. We have a heisman candidate at QB for the next 2 years at least, barring injury. By that time Guiton could blossom into the next great thing.........or he could go the other way. Who knows? I'm not one who takes a few quotes by a coach, or a few video clips and makes great assumptions. Perhaps some should follow suit.

We are having this discussion because I took a positive comment about an incoming freshman and tried to turn it into something else.

So what Oh8ch is clearly trying to say...

I challenge you to provide evidence that anything I say is ever clear.

I look forward to watching Kenny develop in years to come - but don't expect to see anything until at least 2011.

By then I will likely have become a victim of one of the new death squads my good friend Sarah is warning me about.

My hip is doing fine now - really.

You are right. Coach does not know what he is talking about.

I don't think it is a "great assumption" to call him a "legitimate QB" after the head coach likes what he sees from him. No one said he was going to be the next big thing.

Like I said in another post "I am not labeling him the heir apparent to Terrell Pryor. I have no expectations of him beating out Bauserman as the backup as a freshman. I also do not want people thinking he has walkon ability and will get passed over when Graham steps on campus."

I think the assumption people are trying to dispell is that Guiton will never play a down at QB here. That's been the quiet talk for a while. Assuming Ken redshirts, he's be Junior at the latest when TP left. If Ken is showing that he's got the typical QB instincts, then he certainly has a shot at QB here. That's all anyone can ask for.
