QB Kenny "the old righty" Guiton (WR Coach Wisconsin)

The whole thing about him never playing a down here came from "insiders" on Scout without knowing anything about the kid. This was sort of understandable given the panicky late offer after the Boyd debacle.

Watch his video from HS...It never read total project to me.
I'm glad to see he's proving people wrong.

I think the assumption people are trying to dispell is that Guiton will never play a down at QB here. That's been the quiet talk for a while. Assuming Ken redshirts, he's be Junior at the latest when TP left. If Ken is showing that he's got the typical QB instincts, then he certainly has a shot at QB here. That's all anyone can ask for.

Love this quote from the Rapp article:

He answers on a regular basis to Siciliano.

?He?s a real good coach,? Guiton said. ?He?s very helping, He?s always there just like Terrelle is. He?s there to help me. No matter what, he?s picking me up. He?s telling me what my reads are. He?s just a big help.

True soph helping the new kid learn the ropes. Gotta love that.

OSU football: Third choice makes good first impression

JEFF HINCKLEY | Dispatch
Third-string quarterback Kenny Guiton, the last player to commit to the 2009 class, has shown improved patience in recent practices.

If Terrelle Pryor, in his first scrimmage as an Ohio State quarterback, had been 5-of-11 passing for 8 yards, concern would have rippled throughout the team.

Kenny Guiton, though, posted those statistics last weekend, and coaches and teammates continue to praise his progress.

That's the difference that hype and expectations can make.

Pryor came to Columbus last year as the nation's No. 1 recruit -- a vastly talented prize. Guiton arrived this summer as a curiosity -- a throw-in to the 2009 recruiting class.

The upside is that Guiton can progress at an unhurried pace, away from the scrutiny and without the pressure.

"I'm loving it so far," he said early in camp. "It's a lot of fun -- it's everything I expected, man, maybe even better."

By now, most fans are familiar with the last-minute scramble that resulted in Guiton's becoming a Buckeye.

Ohio State was waiting on heralded recruit Tajh Boyd of Hampton, Va., in January. The Buckeyes had put Austin Boucher of Kettering Alter on notice that he was their backup choice.

But on Jan. 26, nine days before national signing day, Boyd announced Clemson as his choice. Ohio State quickly offered Boucher a scholarship, but he chose to honor his commitment to Miami.

The Buckeyes were down to Plan C. Assistant coach John Peterson visited Guiton's school -- Aldine Eisenhower near Houston -- on Jan. 28. Ohio State made an offer the next day, and he committed Feb. 1.

Guiton was asked where, back in January, he thought he would end up.

"I'd say probably Kansas, or Rice," he said.

Guiton said he worried about whether he would be considered a second-class citizen when he arrived for summer workouts in June.

"I didn't know if I was going to fit in, because I was the last person to commit," he said. "When I got up here, they treated me like a family, they took me in. No one looked down upon me because I was maybe a third or fourth choice."

I don't know the young man at all but his quotes lead me to believe he is a very humble young man.

Yeah, I really like what I've heard about this kid. Here's hoping he gets a real shot at getting on the field some day. Keep working hard Kenny! :oh::io:

Check out the smile on this kid's face. Couldn't be happier. (him and me both)

This kid just looks so happy and grateful to be here. I would rather have a last minute recruit like Kenny, over a whiny spoiled blue-chipper any day of the week. The kids that come in here without being pampered all through high school have that attitude where they want to learn rather than doing 3 years and going pro.

My hope is to keep Kenny at QB - don't turn him into a [censored] DB or WR! Let the kid hit the weights and learn to be a QB. Remember pics of TS in 02? He was pretty light in the pants - four years later he was a Heisman winning QB.

Go Kenny, keep fighting for those extra snaps!

:oh:
