QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

No kidding.

Did you guys hear? We beat Michigan yesterday. Badly. :scum4:
We did-absolutely. The #1 factor in our victory was Smith's brilliant play. The receivers made plays today-they did not in some of Smith's other starts. I will admit that before the season started I was clearly in the Justin Zwick camp, but Smith has changed my mind. I don't think there is a debate-it's like Krenzel 3 years ago-you go with the guy who played great against scUM!

I don't disagree who is going in as the #1 and 'starter'... but I don't think it's a slam dunk coming out same way...

JT still likes a QB that makes good decisions (every game) more than a QB who has great athletic talent... Krenzel made good decisions... he was not necessarily the best athletic talent...

I just don't think you can count out Zwick... or even Boeckman for that matter... but I certainly don't want to rain on Troy's parade... and his awesome day... so I'll stop right there...

Smith had a great game yesterday, and if he continues to play like that, then yeah, let him start. However, Zwick never even got a fair chance. The O-line couldn't block anybody to save their lives in the first several games. Smith had a more protection yesterday than Zwick ever could have dreamed of.

I assume you watched the game. Tell me of one, just one, bad decision or even anything remotely looking like a wrong decision he made all day. He threw the ball out of bounds a couple of times instead of trying for yardage...earlier in the season he would've forced himself to run. He clearly is learning when to run and when to throw it away, and he should only get better with game experience. Listening to his interview snippets during the game gave me the sense that he's a very confident and poised leader...he could become much better than any of us dared to expect of him.

He made a couple of minor mistakes. Twice he allowed the play clock to expire. I don't think it was a play calling fault as on both plays the offense was set and ready to go.
These are minor mistakes wich will get fixed as he plays more.
I'm very, very excited about this kid's future. I think he'll end up being something very special.

I have always been - and continue to be - a big Zwick fan. But Troy Smith was responsible for much of the protection he had today. Set a relatively immobile QB in the pocket against that same D and you will see a change in the attack and a change in the effectiveness of the blocking. One reason Troy Smith had time is because he had a running game - and he was that running game.

Yup. No argument, no debate. The kid was awesome, and delivered an all-time great performance against scUM.

So why does everyone want to talk about Zwick? Do we now have a rule on BP that you can't mention one without the other?

This line is my favorite: "It's only one game." Hello? John Cooper? Is that you? It was MICHIGAN. Beat Michigan as a coach and you get to stay here forever. Beat Michigan as a QB, and you're a sure bet to start the next game and the next season. I really don't care how the kid looked against Indiana or Michigan State or Purdue or whatever. He delivered the goods in the biggest game on the schedule. There's been more than a few talented players come through this school who can't say that.

That was the best performance by an OSU QB against Michigan I have ever seen. He seemed to be in the Michigan defensive huddle. They could not stop him!!!! How many first year starters beat Michigan? The kid is our starter until he plays horrible or does something stupid. He reminds me of a more athletic, stronger armed, and more accurate Krenzel.
