QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

If you really think about Justin's time here... he rarely ran the ball when compared to his abilities. We could have used him more in that regard.

True, but James Skalski proved why Fields shouldn’t run, and why Stroud shouldn’t run either. When you have a QB that is a 70% passer on intermediate and deep routes, you shouldn’t ask them to break their own ribs on 3rd and 8.

Yeah, the threat of QB run should hypothetically loosen the defense. But when you’re Ohio State you should be able to take ten yards on three downs without asking the defenses permission or needing a cheat code at QB.

Well sure..don't spin into a 250 pound LB but running for 6yds and then getting down is more than fine.

Fields really didn't run a lot here all things considering.

Hoping to see Stroud run a bit this Saturday. If we do that and rush the ball overall then consider my optimistic we are on the right path.

It doesn't but it also doesn't mean Fields is going to explode like Allen did. Allen is probably the biggest outlier in NFL history when it comes to QBs who played as poorly as he did for his two seasons and still became a star.

It's great that Fields seems to be improving but comparing him to Allen is doing Fields a disservice.

Both fair points.

I'm just happy for Justin that there is legit hope given that a month ago it appeared the consensus was the Bears needed to move on.

It also helps that the Bears appear to finally have competent management, draft capital and a ton of cap space.

Detroit Lions coach says Justin Fields is a combination of Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has shaken off a poor start to the season to become one of the NFL's most electric signal callers over the last three weeks. Over his last trio of games, the Ohio State product has completed 65.3% of his passes for 453 yards and six touchdowns against one interception. He has also been unstoppable on the ground, rushing 37 times for 320 yards (8.7 avg) and three additional scores. Against the Miami Dolphins last week, Fields set a regular-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback (178) while totaling four touchdowns. Ahead of Chicago's trip to Detroit on Sunday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell compared Fields to three of the league's top quarterbacks.

"I feel like you're watching a little bit of Deshaun Watson in Houston. You're watching Lamar Jackson, Baltimore. There's a little bit of (Philadelphia's) Jalen Hurts," Campbell said, via Pro Football Talk." Quarterback-driven runs, guard/tackle pulls, read the end, hand it off. His ability on third down, that's where they really got Miami was, man, there's a number of third-and-8, third-and-10, third-and -- there's an opening in there, and he takes it, and he's gone. And one of them for 60-something yards. That's where he's very lethal. It's very much built around him. He's very dangerous."
