Potentially playing baseball at UGA was part of the football recruiting pitch.Fields was one of the highest-rated shortstop recruits in the country and is considered a professional baseball prospect.
I was unaware of this....interdasting
FWIW - Georgia has put up ZERO fight in his hardship case. They will not contest the transfer or the grounds of his exit in any way, shape or form.
UGA dismissed the scholarship baseball player less than 24 hours after the incident. If he still feels uncomfortable or if he's just using the incident to get immediate eligibility, it doesn't matter. He's taken his career to a non-conference opponent because he wants to play more. Wish him well and get ready for NSD and spring practice.
Georgia got a nice prospect in Mathis with the trade as well. There's a scenario where everyone wins.UGA dismissed the scholarship baseball player less than 24 hours after the incident. I hope he gets it because 1) fuck everyone else and 2) I'm all about increased player power, particularly when it might improve my personal entertainment. I also think he will because the NCAA won't want to touch anything even tangentially involving racism.Regarding the waiver, I feel there is pressure on the NCAA to not fuck over college players quite as much these days given the increased scrutiny on the billion dollar industry they are running on the backs of people who aren’t getting paid.
Given that circumstance, perhaps they should let players do what is best for them without additional burden for no real reason?
Whether it’s a desire to not have the entire system come crumbling down or not, it does seem very clear the NCAA is being more lenient in these cases recently.
To be upset about that seems... odd?
His sister committed to play softball at Georgia after the incident occurred and if you think he still wouldn't be there had he been named the starter, you're naive. The lived experience of racism in the South is not something I understand. What I do understand is that people of color feel a direct threat from others whenever something like that baseball player getting thrown off the team occurs. There is always the fear that you get out of your car at night and meet four wonderful good old boys with baseball bats. I'm sure that playing time also is part of this equation, but I don't discount that concern on his behalf.
