QB Julian "Just" Sayin (National Champion)

I'm absolutely going to trust the coaches on this one until it's obvious that they're wrong. :) JS will be a different style QB from Howard. He's 6'0" and fairly slight, but seems to be able to sling it and work off script. One of the things I liked about Howard and I think we're going to find out we were spoiled by this year was his ridiculous poise in the pocket. Matching that would be a lot to ask of a first year starter as it comes with hard reps. That said, I hope we see a kid who can make plays when things break down. I don't think I want him relaxed in the pocket. I want him tactical. Overall, though, it seems that his best trait is processing speed and Kelly and Day seem high on that. If that's true it will go a long way to helping with everything else.

When I keep seeing talk about Sayins frame, I just think that Nick Saban had no problem with his size when he signed him to Bama. And honestly, sitting for his first year was Sayin's trajectory, because he was supposed to watch Milroe anyway and get his weight up. So, to me nothing has changed as far as his trajectory, only his team did. And honestly he's in a better spot with a more QB centered offense. If Saban had no problem with the size of Tua or Bryce Young, then none of us should. And its not like QBs in the 6-1 210 range haven't been successful(i.e.: Kyler Murray, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, etc), heck Joe Burrow was a 6-4 200lbs true frosh at OSU. I'm sure we'll see a different Sayin by summer and by the time the season rolls around

NFL Combine Results
Caleb Williams - 6'1, 214
Bryce Young - 5'10, 204
CJ Stroud - 6'3, 214
Sam Howell - 6'1, 218
Brock Purdy - 6'1, 212
Mac Jones - 6'2, 217

For a young man who is 19 and currently listed at 6'1, 203 after his true freshman year, I have no size concerns for him.

Ha yeah but what if we lose 2 more?

Let’s say we lose to Texas, lose another big ten conference game, and then lose in the conference championship. That’d suck pretty royally.

Basically Penn state from this year except they never play anyone good non conference
I’m never a fan of backing away from competition. Iron sharpens iron.

I’m excited to see Sayin play but people need to temper their expectations at first next season. Hell, I remember being down on Stroud after the Oregon game his first season and we know how that turned out. I’d imagine he’ll struggle some against Texas and then settle in as the season progresses. Bucks are the odds on favorite to win the natty next season, so Vegas must know something about him as well.

Not necessarily directed at you, but more a statement regarding the bold… It would be great if people realized that it’s the coaches’ expectations (and plan) that matter… not our expectations.

It doesn't matrer who I'd rather face. Ole Piss didn't deserve shit.

Yep.

I have no sympathy for 3 loss teams crying about getting left out.

ESPECIALLY B1G and SEC teams. You are basically given a 2 loss mulligan in those conference, it's going to take a wonky year for a 2 loss SEC or B1G team to get left out in most cases. People crying for 3 loss teams can get out.

I’m fully aware that none of our expectations mean jack shit in the grand scheme of it all. Did I go on the Stroud thread and blow it up with negativity? Nope. I pride myself in being positive on this board and in the stadium. That being said, I was at that particular game with my buddy and we had a private conversation on the car ride home about our concerns. Did we think that conversation would change the trajectory of that years team? Hell no, we just talked football because the post game analysis is something we enjoy. It’s what fans do, man. This board wouldn’t exist if such conversations didn’t occur.

For sure. There’s a huge difference between what you describe — my words, rational discussion — and some of the reactionary bullshit that is, well… less rational.
