QB Joe Bauserman (official thread)

Mark Garcia

For what it's worth, I haven't seen OSU passes thrown at that velocity since Mark Garcia (mid 90s California JC if I remember correctly, former baseball player). His passes would tear most receivers fingers off.

Nice surprise, and a lot of fun for the spring game. Good Job Bauser.

I was definitely impressed with Bauserman. He played the most complete game of any of the QBs out there, and had to do it behind what I thought was the lesser of the two offensive lines. His passing was relatively crisp (not to be overlooked on a wet day where the ball can slip out of one's hand fairly easily), he threw a couple good deep balls and did some nice things with his feet when he had to. Plus, he didn't turn the ball over.

Deadly accurate. He was more mobile than I thought he would be and his deep passes were just beautiful to watch. He spread the ball around pretty well and he and Washington developed a great chemistry on the field it seemed. With more time on the clock I think he would've scored again. He definitely deserves a look.

Actually, I thought he had the best protection of any of the QB's. The scarlet o-line appeared to be much stronger on paper but I thought they were really disappointing. The gray o-line held up much better.

Agree - and the few times that the pocket did collapse, he showed suprising mobility and playmaking ability. Think he has a good shot to be the number 2 QB.

Joe Bauserman, 22, spent a few years as a minor-league baseball pitcher before coming to Ohio State.

Joe Bauserman aims to tighten his grip on backup QB job

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

For nearly a year, Joe Bauserman was a shadowy figure on the fringe of the Ohio State football team.

All most fans knew was that Bauserman was a quarterback from Florida who had committed to OSU's 2004 recruiting class, then spent three summers as a minor-league pitcher before walking onto the Buckeyes last fall.

He was the fourth-stringer, briefly made available to the media on Photo Day in August, and that was it. His public slate was blank.

But in the spring game April 19, Bauserman emerged from his cocoon a fully-grown quarterback. He wowed the crowd with a 51-yard touchdown pass, plus a 63-yard score that was called back by penalty.

Fans might have asked one another, "Who was that face-masked man?"

The answer: a quiet 22-year-old son of two academics who doesn't mind spending time by himself, who disliked the monotony of minor-league baseball and is much happier now that he's in Ohio, competing for the No. 2 quarterback job and hunting trophy deer.

Bauserman doesn't hide his desire to be the clear-cut No. 2 this season, and who knows after that.

"If I was 18, maybe I could be patient and wait my turn, but I'm a little older," Bauserman said. "I think it's the same with everybody -- nobody wants to come to Ohio State and be a backup for five years. We'll see what happens."

From what I saw at the spring game he would be my choice for #2. But I'm not the coach and have only seen him once.
I guess it would boil down to what type of offense I wanted to run as JT would.
Henton is more like Troy while Joe is a drop back QB.

Easily the most impressive QB in the spring game. Henton imo has been a bit of a let down. If Boekmen goes down I feel pretty comfortable with Joe stepping in. He reminds me of Krenzle, the attitude and swagger is there.

We still need to wait and see how far along Pryor is, he could be a wild card, we don't know.

I liked his long ball, he showed us his gun. It was nice to see his accuracy at 50 plus yards. That was better than TB IMO. He just needs more PT and experience. I really want to see more intermediate passes this year whoever is the QB. With as many good targets this year as this team has, we should see mismatches with our third and fourth receivers and Zoom. Keep the drive alive and mix it up with all the receivers.

Pryor will be a wild card, a bonus player, a threat when he has the ball making defenses scramble. It doesn't get any better than this.
