QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

JT deserves any praise and adulation tonight. He went through one of the lowest moments a CFB players could go through after the OU game. His own fans turning on him, OSU prospects questioning him as well as analysts all across the nation. All he did was put his head down and grind(and his OL played lights out), and have full father in his WRs and TEz to make plays when no one else do. Millions of beverages across Buckeye nation will be raised and drank in his honor as he not only kept the dream of another NC alive but also put his name in Buckeye lore as THIS is the statement game in his stellar career as so many said that he held so many records without a signature or statement game. Well damn it, THIS WAS IT!

I am finally "calming down" from the game today and can't even do it. I can only come into this thread and say that JT Barrett is about the most legendary player we have had here. JT did not play an integral part of us coming back. No. What he did was put the entire team on his back and bring us back to win. You see players have good drives or good plays and it is impressive. JT did not do that. What he did is play the entire game, he never was absent. Every single drive, he reassured his team calmly and played his ass off.

Probably seems like hyperbole, but this is the most clutch performance I have seen from any Ohio State player. Period. The entire team was in panic mode. JT just stayed perfectly calm and won the game. He calmed everyone around him down and just brought everyone's level of play up to his. I have never seen anything like it.

OHIO STATE FANS WHO WANTED J.T. BARRETT BENCHED WEIGH IN AFTER HIS INCREDIBLE OUTING AGAINST PENN STATE

87173_h.jpg

For the better part of six weeks – as J.T. Barrett and the Ohio State offense rolled up big numbers against the likes of Army, UNLV, Rutgers, Maryland, and Nebraska, we heard the same thing over and over on social media: “Let's see Barrett do this against a good team.”

It was the retort of frustrated fans who had seen Barrett struggle in several recent big games, including the double-overtime win over Michigan, the thumping the Buckeyes took in the Fiesta Bowl at the hands of Clemson and the week two upset at home to Oklahoma.

The replies were so consistent and relentless that they felt engineered by bots at times.

Barrett named Davey O'Brien Award National Quarterback of the Week? “Get back to me when he plays a good defense,” they said.

THE GODFATHER IV

"So who was the leader of that team? Who kept it all together?

The star freshman from Ohio State's magical 2002 season had fielded at least two dozen questions at this point, but he wasn't showing the slightest hint of being bothered by the attention. He was happy to share the stories he lived through almost half of his life ago.

Me, I was less comfortable and starting to feel guilty - I had been asked to attend the Buckeyes' game with UNLV last month with a corporate group and my host had given me a plus-one to invite. I asked old Number Thirteen. He said yes immediately. We had ourselves a man date.

Admittedly I was naive and did not properly grasp what would happen in a large group of Buckeye fans with their plus-ones all pregaming at Champps with omg it's Maurice Clarett. He's been a friend for years. I've interviewed him too many times to even count. I ran out of questions for him a long time ago. I did. Naive.

They wanted to know who the real MVP of that title was. Clarett would know. Would he say it was himself? That sure felt like the anticipation.

"Who was that guy?" They continued. "All the close games! How did you keep it together? Was -- "

"Krenzel," he interrupted. Deadpan response.

"Who?"

"Craig Krenzel," Clarett said. "Our starting quarterback [side note - the best thing about Reece telling Ohio State stories is how he unnecessarily adds descriptors] Craig helped me out at Northwestern. He kept us alll cool at Wisconsin. Penn State, Purdue, Michigan. Miami. It was always Krenzel. He was that guy for us."

J.T. BARRETT CEMENTS HIS OHIO STATE LEGACY WITH COME FROM BEHIND WIN OVER NO. 2 PENN STATE

87154_h.jpg

There was more than just a game on the line Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio.

There was a chance at a Big Ten title on the line. There was a chance to appear in the College Football Playoff on the line. But for Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, it was his legacy on the line against Penn State in Ohio Stadium.

While Urban Meyer denied it during the week, Barrett's performance against the Nittany Lions – with the entire country watching – was going to shape how he would be remembered by Ohio State fans across the country. And boy, did he deliver.

Facing an 18-point deficit, Barrett was as close to perfect as he could be. The redshirt senior from Wichita Falls, Texas completed 33-of-39 passes for 328 yards and four scores, leading the Buckeyes to a 39-38 win in front of 109,302 at Ohio Stadium.

The win didn't only save Barrett's legacy as Ohio State's quarterback, it cemented it in stone.

"I'll just tell you, man-to-man, this is one man talking about another man. I don't know if I've ever had more respect for a human being and as a person," Meyer said when discussing Barrett in his postgame comments. "You earn respect and you witness people in very dire straits at times, tough situations."

Tough situation doesn't even begin to describe what Ohio State, and Barrett were up against in the fourth quarter.

J.T. Barrett Defines Legacy with Late Touchdowns Against Penn State

Barrett was calm in a setting of utter chaos and tension.

“This is one of the best [games] I’ve ever seen a quarterback play,” head coach Urban Meyer said.

On Penn State’s final possession, Barrett didn’t put on his jacket, numb to the near-freezing temperatures, euphoric from his play and holding the lead for the first time all game. After a sack by Jalyn Holmes, Penn State coach James Franklin called a timeout facing a third-and-15. Barrett sprinted from the sideline into the huddle exemplifying the leadership Meyer has raved about for the better part of three seasons.

Barrett had one message for the defense: “Let’s go win the game.”

“I mean, that was going through my head the entire game, was you have to go win the game,” Barrett said.

As far as legacies go, JT's is well positioned but take a second and remember Troy Smith.

As great of a career as Troy had and as great as '06 was, he didn't finish. To this day when the best QB of all time at OSU discussions start it's always a debate. There is no clear cut winner because the guy with the Heisman and the stats doesn't have a NC.

JT-finish with a NC and leave no doubt.
