QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

J.T. BARRETT SILENCES DOUBTERS WITH AMAZING GAME, PERFECT FINAL QUARTER AGAINST PENN STATE

87132_h.jpg

There is going to be a lot of discussion after tonight about what J.T. Barrett just did and how we place it in the pantheon of great Ohio State performances. From start to finish, Barrett was transcendent, taking what the Penn State defense was giving him and making a series of spectacular passes en route to finishing an incredible comeback against the second ranked team in the country.

But you know this; you just saw it happen. Barrett was 33-39 for 328 yards (including three drops) and four touchdowns of 14, 38, 10, and a final 16 yarder that ended up being the game-winning points. Those 328 yards constitute Barrett's 8th 300 yard-plus passing game of his career, which ties him with Joe Germaine for the most 300 yard passing games by an Ohio State quarterback, ever.

What you may not have realized, however, is that as insanely great as J.T. was overall, in the final quarter of the game, Barrett was better than that: he was perfect.

13 passes, 13 completions of 9, 8, 3, 38, 11, 4, 13, 18, 10, 20, 6, 14, and 16 yards. 170 yards of passing total. Three touchdowns. All of this, against the 7th ranked passing defense in the country. Those 13 passes were part of a larger streak of 16 straight completions that was only ended by the clock hitting triple zeroes. K.J. Hill was Barrett's partner in crime at the end of the game, catching two crucial passes, but Johnnie Dixon and Marcus Baugh will be remembered as the players who got open in the endzone to seal the game.

J.T. Barrett gives impassioned postgame speech, Urban Meyer heaps praise on his QB

Not to be outdone, Urban Meyer heaped unadulterated praise on the redshirt senior quarterback in his postgame press conference. Below is just a brief snippet of the adulation the head coach expressed for Barrett in his exchanges with the media, in quotes distributed by the team:

You guys can figure out all the records. I’ll just tell you, man-to-man, this is one man talking about another man. I don’t know if I’ve ever had more respect for a human being and as a person, because you earn respect and you witness people in very dire straits at times, tough situations.

I’ve never had a kid play perfect, but damn he was close tonight — 33 of 39. I can count four drops off the top of my head and two penalties that kept him from big completions. And he’d be the first one to tell you he’s a product of those around him, which he is — receivers and offensive line played. That’s the No. 1 defense in America, we have great respect for. And I just can’t — just how proud of J.T.

Q. You said earlier in the week teams are won by leadership. J.T., you see him behind the scenes… What did you see this week in him?
COACH MEYER: I think I’ve had him for five years. I’ve seen it ever since he’s been playing for us. I heard about this J.T. Barrett guy, and he came on as a redshirt freshman. And he wasn’t tall enough, wasn’t this or that. But he’s tough as a lion and he has an incredible skill to lead others.
