QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

What should impress anyone about this kid is that Urban himself said Cardale was the #2 "by far" at the spring game. Now JT is starting at tOSU. Now I'm not sure about you, but I don't see Coach Meyer
as the type of guy to sugar coat things. So if JT was that far behind in spring, his progress since then has to be phenomenal. Again, I think he's going to surprise a lot of people. Maybe not so much on here, but
on a national level.

Not comparing him in terms of what he might do, but Kenny Guiton went through a similar transformation in terms of changing the coach's opinion of him.

No he doesn't, I think Meyer is "refreshingly" honest in his comments.

Let's home JT comes out of the blocks and has a Manziel (2013) or Winston (2014) type of year. However realistically, first year starting QBs sometimes tend to be a little (let's say) inconsistant; I really expect to see both JT and Cardale get significant playing time in 2015.

I don't see him as refreshingly honest any time he talks about players. He is always trying to motivate his players or send them a message based on what he says about them. I mean, he kept trying to tell everyone that Miller's shoulder was 100%.

We're looking at a QB in his first year, and the weapons you mention are all untested at this level as well.
The talent is there to do great things; but it's very unrealistic to think there aren't going to be a lot A LOT of miscues.
We're looking at an offense that's going to be dominated by underclassmen... that's not bad, but it comes with the territory that things aren't always going to go smooth.

Let's not start piling pressure on the guy and people getting disillusioned with their own fantasies a few games in.
We're still in it, but I'd advise people temper their expectations a bit. Especially considering all the fixes going on with the defense at the same time.
I'm not being unrealistic at all and I certainly am not heaping expectations on Barrett. My point was we are explosive, even more so than last year, and all JT has to do is facilitate.

I'm not predicting the Heisman or even an undefeated season. What I am predicting? JT will use his talent around him (the coaches will make sure of that via play calling) and this offense WILL be deeper and more explosive than ANYONE realizes.

I will take talent over experience all day and while Jalin didn't play last year it wasn't due to talent it was due to just not being healthy. Dontre is established we know what to expect from him and IMO Jalin will be right there with him as well

I enjoy the pocket presence and I think the kid has a good head on his shoulders. As long as he's accurate on the screens we should have decent success moving the ball. I don't see many big plays coming from his arm, though. That will come with time. Would love to have seen him stretch the field a bit more in the spring game --- we could be in worse hands.

It's good to remember that, as a junior, JT was regarded as the #1 dual-threat QB nationally by at least one rating service. This kid is not now, nor was he ever, chopped liver. He's a genuine talent who will have an unexpected opportunity to show his stuff this fall. Looking forward to seeing him do it.

I take as much pleasure as anyone in seeing the Buckeyes win every single game, but I also take great pleasure in seeing new stars develop their skills on the field - and yes, sometimes that entails mistakes big enough to lead to losses. The losses hurt, but they don't take away the fun of seeing the new stars getting to where they need to be.

Great post.

I can think of a few aspects of that pair that I'd rather never see any tOSU player replicate.

I dunno... if Barrett were to come riding out of a Giant Eagle on an inflatable swan with a roman candle between his teeth, bb gun in one hand and a pack of crab legs in the other, I have to say that'd be pretty spectacular.
