Just saw this on ESPN. J.T. Barrett was the backup quarterback for Braxton Miller this year for the Ohio StateBuckeyes. When the starting quarterback went down, Barrett was the next man up and led his team to an 11-1 season. This past week against rival Michigan, Heisman candidate Barrettfractured his ankle and will be out the rest of year. Before he was carted off, it was originally believed that Michigan’s quarterback, Devin Gardner, was ‘consoling’ his counterpart. J.T. Barrett today told ESPN that Gardner was doing no such thing. Barrett stated, “Gardner came up to me and took a knee. He first said to me, ‘How does it feel knowing your Heisman trophy and your national championship hopes are gone.’ He was kind of a jerk. He did wish me a speedy recovery but it all just seemed like a big ‘F you.’ That’s alright we beat them and he was just upset that he wouldn’t be in a bowl game. And let’s face it, Ohio State is better than Michigan and I am better than Devin Gardner.”
University of Michigan has not responded to these accusations. Since Brady Hoke is expected to be terminated and Gardner is a senior, nothing will come of this; expect maybe an extra spice in the long rivalry between the schools.
