QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

For anyone still thinking the B1G was the cat's meow in 05/06 - here is a snapshot of the B1G bowl record from that era:
2003: 3-5
2004: 3-3
2005: 3-4
2006: 2-5
2007: 3-5
2008: 1-6

Conference bowl record has rarely been good, due to several factors including
- almost always multiple BCS entrants b/c travel and ratings... pushes everyone else up a spot
- having lopsided pairings that match -- for example -- #5 Big10 vs. #3 PAC10 ... and that was before accounting for 2 BCS teams making it #6 Big10 vs. #3 PAC10 (Sun Bowl tie-in for your time period)
- scheduling few bowls (and only ones at the bottom) against mid majors compared to other conferences
PAC played 4 Mid Majors last year plus 1 ACC... B1G played 0 Mid Majors and 2 ACC including Clemson... SEC played 2 Mid Majors and 3 ACC including FSU
- Opponent generally has homefield advantage

One year (I forget when - 2008, maybe?) the Big East was bragging about their bowl record. 5-0 or something. And while that's a pretty good accomplishment, and I don't mean to take anything away from them, does anyone think that the Big East was the best conference?

Back on Barrett - I wonder how many voters will be turned off to the idea of a freshman winning the Heisman because of the previous 2 winners. (Not that I think Barrett deserves it over Gordon, but it'd be nice to see him get some recognition.)

I think the voters have made it clear that which class a player is in is not a factor. After Manziel and Winston though, voters will likely make character a higher priority in selecting who gets to NY. Short of an absolute face-plant, the trophy is likely Mariota's. Gordon & Cooper will also get invites if the trust brings three players; if they bring five or six to the ceremony then Boykin, Barrett and Prescott are in that mix.

I think that, if Cooper is invited, Barrett will be also. Gordon or Marriota will win it, though, unless something unforeseen happens.

It's a bit depressing to think that Barrett's chances at winning a Heisman might not be pinned on what he does, but what the OSU run defense does in the B1G title game. I don't have high hopes right now after seeing Langford and Cobb shed piles to repeatedly turn 2 yard losses into 15 yard gains.
