QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

The TDs in first 10 games statistic for JT, Braxton, and Terrelle was revelatory. Yes, all sorts of factors could/should be considered +/- for each of them but you can't really argue with the 38 td figure, most in school history, in his first ten games. The relative numbers aren't even close and I think that cancels out any of the extrinsic factor arguments.

Drew Brees holds the conference record with 42 TDs. Barrett has at least four games left.

Who? I don't see a single one.
I think the smileys were code for this:

Everyone QB we've had since 2001 has been a lolverine killer...
Yeah, but Troy almost single-handedly eviscerated them three times. Guys like Krenzel and Boeckman, and even Pryor/Miller were part of a collective. In 2004, Troy had maybe the most dominant game I've ever seen anybody have against them with his arms and legs. He did it again in 2005 with both, then just surgically diced them up with his arm in 2006...with some help from Ginn, Gonzo, Robo, et al. 2007 was the Beanie show. 2008-10 was a combined effort. Last year was a HUGE day for Hyde. No QB in my memory has dominated that rivalry with his performances like Troy did. It was a thing of beauty.

Here's hoping JT mimics Troy next weekend. I see a lot of similarities in the two.

They almost had a resurgence in that period too... If Troy doesn't hand Llllllloyd Carr some of those Ls, they never fire him and hire DickRod.

Well, considering that the Wolverine Offense will likely give him every opportunity to possess the football as many times as he likes, its really up to him.

As to the larger conversation, yeah, I mean, it makes me sick but I think the message to Braxton needs to be that they're gonna center the offense around Barrett. Not just for this year but for the next as well or as long as he wants to stay.

Certainly not apples to apples but Braxton had some stinkers in his first year too, along with some miraculous plays as well, but you can't just sit here and hang on to the Va Tech game or the Penn State game as evidence of some future trend with a first time starting QB. He has that first competent opponent and first big road game under his belt, he'll learn from that and needs to continue to learn.

Further the arguments about Braxton's explosiveness and singular abilities with the football in his hands really make the argument that if he wants to be here next year, he's the one that needs to make the change. A major break in orthodoxy aside, with Braxton at QB, Barrett is on the bench. With Barrett at QB, Braxton can be at least 2 other positions.

I'd also guess that without a position change, the New England Patriots are gonna wait for Miller to fall to the late rounds and do it for him. (Maybe not them but, I think the point is clear).

Finally, and I hate to lay the mantel of "game manager" at JT's feet given the video game stats, but in this case I intend it in the best possible way... because I think this aspect of the game allows him to be successful at the big stuff, and in one way he puts a lot more pressure on a defense than Miller throughout the course of the game, and that's that he avoids much more than Miller, negative plays. I think if we just looked at the sacks/runs for negative plays, the difference would be huge in both of their first 10 games. I imagine Barrett's stats this year are probably better than Miller's 3 year and take out Va Tech and they're not common at all. Further, Barrett's repertoire is such that I feel nearly as confident in him picking up 3rd and long plays as I do Miller improvising them. But its this ability to manage the game and really stay on schedule that makes defenses truly have to defend the entire field and has contributed to, what's the most prolific offense in school history.

There are a few fleas on this team overall, but, given our position and playoff rankings, Ohio State's future may well be now, as is JT Barrett's.
