QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I'm constantly reminding myself that I once said these types of things about TP and Brax. Truth is Troy will be JT's benchmark.

If he truly surpasses Troy in all regards then we can talk about best Buckeye QB in history.

JT is outdoing as a FS Frosh what Troy did as a RS Heisman winning Senior. 3k yards? check. 31 TDs? um, yeah, JT has 38 with at least four games to go.
beat Ped State? Troy lost to those pederast bastards in '05. so did Pryor in '08. JT put the team on his back, and BEAT THEM.

honest question: what does Barrett need to do to meet your Troy Smith 'benchmark?' 4k yards and 50 TDs? go undefeated? is THAT the benchmark?
'04, 4 losses. '05, 2 losses, '06, 1 loss. what's the benchmark?

In back-to-back games, Barrett has 386 total yards (tied for fifth best in Buckeye history) and 389 total yards (3rd best) and 9 total touchdowns.

He has 38 total touchdowns on the season (breaking Braxton Miller's mark of 36 from 2013) and 29 passing touchdowns (one shy of Troy Smith's record set in 2006).

He has 3,127 total yards on the season and will (barring injury) shatter Braxton Miller's single-season record of 3,310 total yards set in 2012.

He has 2,356 yards passing, and still has a shot to break Joe Germaine's single-season record of 3,330 yards set in 1998.

He has 771 yards rushing and is on pace to go over 1,000 yards on the season.

He has the third-longest run in Ohio State history (86 yards).

Plus he has the intangibles that you look for in a quarterback.

And he's only a freshman.

Article from Forbes Magazine, of all places:

JTB: The Most Underrated QB in CFB

When have you heard of a third-string quarterback becoming one of the best in the country in the same season? So it is with a little known J.T. Barrett of The Ohio State Buckeyes. He is the “who-knew?” replacement for preseason All American and reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Braxton Miller.

* * *

But already Ohio State fans are in the enviable position to legitimately ask the question: Which quarterback starts next year, this season’s preseason All- American or the one who played like one?

The TDs in first 10 games statistic for JT, Braxton, and Terrelle was revelatory. Yes, all sorts of factors could/should be considered +/- for each of them but you can't really argue with the 38 td figure, most in school history, in his first ten games. The relative numbers aren't even close and I think that cancels out any of the extrinsic factor arguments.
