QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I get sick of reading on other sites and on social media about our fans bashing this kid so much. I feel like some OSU fans are so freaking spoiled that they expect a 350yd, 100yd rushing 6td game or he's a bum. If JT misses a WR, gets sacked or if the WR drops the ball it's his fault! I've never seen a fan base be so down on a guy, who WILL go down as the best statistical QB to ever play at their school. Not many fans can say that they were around and able to watch a kid break every record in their schools history, and JT will do that(barring injury) by the middle to end of this year. He has his frustrating plays, but who doesn't? He's an amazing leader, who even with OSU down, showed poise and leadership, and never got down or let his team get down on themselves. And not to mention that he's done something that not anyone in OSU's history in football has ever done, and that's be a 3 time Captain. This offense needed a half to get actual game ready, and get in sync, and I think they can be dangerous with JT at the helm. The WRs were said to be apologizing to JT during the first half because they weren't getting open, admitting that they have been more of the issue than the QB(though he has his struggles as well). I'm hoping the 2nd half is what is the real offense and not the 1st, because OSU has some explosive weapons that can top any team in the nation, and one of their strongest weapons is at QB.

I agree. He's a special player.

I watched the Indiana game again tonight. The first half, he showed little improvement over last year. The second half saw him gaining more confidence, and it is fair to say that the Bucks didn't present a credible vertical threat. I went so far as to say that I think there was a problem at QB, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is all on him or that it is not fixable, as some opined.

He's not Cardale, but he didn't drop that long ball in the end zone. He wasn't the same guy that knocked receivers down with passes that were too hard and too high for five yards away last year. He and the receivers got on the same page more often in the second half. He looked more settled and I think the playcalling played into that for him.

The second half was fun to watch, and this offense left in a better place than the end of their previous game, but there is a lot of work for the passing game when they go back to practice tomorrow.

Barrett's one of my favorite players. Yeah, Indiana's a good team, but they're still Indiana. Games like this were made for getting the kinks out. Don't worry...we'll be fine. As will JT. :urban2:

See this is what I don't understand... how can we not see his improvements even in the first half? IU was winning the TOP, JT threw 3 away to avoid pressure, he had a pass dropped by Dobbins on a wheel that would've went for 20, had a pass dropped by Dixon that would've given us a first down but instead lead to a punt, and also didn't get a PI call in the end zone when trying to throw to Marcus Baugh.

Personally he looked great all game with his feet and his mechanics. I think we can go faster and i would like to see JT just pick up 3 yards with his feet instead of throwing the ball away.

At the half JT easily could've been 12 of 18 for 150 yards and a score with us leading by At least a touchdown

The Buckeye Re-Watch: Ohio State at Indiana

Barrett’s Night

So here’s the thing, J.T. Barrett was 20-of-35 passing for 304 yards and three touchdowns, and for a lot of people it wasn’t good enough. Was he perfect? No. No quarterback is perfect. Urban Meyer was disappointed that they didn’t hit more deep shots — or any deep shots. That needs to change, clearly.

Watching the game again, I wanted to take a closer look at his 15 incompletions and see what the issues were. Here’s the breakdown of those 15 passes.

+ Throwaway on the run with nobody open
+ Corner route to Marcus Baugh that isn’t really close
+ Wheel route to J.K. Dobbins that hits him in the hands but gets blown up by the safety
+ Drop by Johnnie Dixon
+ Throwaway
+ Fade route in end zone to Austin Mack
+ Throw to Marcus Baugh in end zone, no holding is called
+ Pressured, incomplete to Baugh on corner route
+ Incomplete to diving Binjimen Victor, putting the ball only where his receiver could catch it
+ Thrown just wide of Parris Campbell on a crossing route
+ Drop by Parris Campbell
+ Drop by Parris Campbell
+ Incomplete on deep throw to Marcus Baugh
+ Errant throw while being pressured
+ Throwaway

So in those 15 incompletions there are three throwaways and three drops. The four incompletions to Baugh were bad, but we might want to keep in mind that Baugh had no spring football and very little fall camp. The fact that they haven’t locked in on each other yet isn’t a huge surprise. It’s good to see the Buckeyes trying to utilize the tight end so much, however.

Outside of the throwaways, there were only three passes to wide receivers that weren’t catchable.

When you add those three to the three drops and the three throwaways and the four passes to Baugh that probably need more work, the incompletions add up quickly.

What you will also want to see, however, are the completions.

Namely, once Indiana took a 21-20 lead late in the third quarter, Barrett would go on to complete his final eight pass attempts.

When the game was on the line, Barrett was on the mark, and that’s how you measure a quarterback.

No, the short game won’t beat Alabama, and nowhere in my words above did I say that. Things will need to get better, but they weren’t nearly as bad as some may wish them to be.

Good analysis of Barrett's incompletions.

Good analysis of Barrett's incompletions.

In fairness to JT, the receivers have to hold on to the balls they DO catch. A few beautiful passes were dropped. Just sayin'.

He played well in the 2nd half, and there's no reason for panic, but there needs to be improvement in the downfield passing game now in order to beat top teams later. That starts with 1a) JT Barrett and 1b) WRs.

Love JT, but I had too many flashbacks to the last 2 years when watching the offensive snaps.

I'm totally fine with the throw aways and he erred on the side of caution with some of those throws being only where his guy would get it or no one would. The big plays will come they just need to be patient and don't force anything. More reps will get them on track, hopefully. No turnovers is always a win.

your wasting your time. the majority of sports fans don't even understand their chosen sports rules. let alone how every position on the field has to work together for success not to mention the coaching staff. most fans just scream loudly whatever the announcers say. i don't miss neg rep often because i rarely ever gave it for any reason. but this thread? id be willing to dedicate a few hours of my day to go through the entire damn thing.

jt is ALREADY one of the top 5 qb's in tOSU history. kid will likely end up top 3. but to read this thread he's easily one of the top 3 worst.

there used to be a time when i actually enjoyed coming to this site and talking actual x's and o's football with fellow buckeye fans. now i come to this site and i just get angry. this is the best the buckeyes have been in my 40 year lifetime yet in the years i have been on this site i have never heard so much bitching.

Agreed brother. Urban and Tressel have spoiled us. Its a good problem to be in. but it is frustrating at times. But tbh, this is one of the(if not THE) best Buckeye site. The mods kill it with the info, and there are a majority who are realistic but just passionate. I've seen mixed reviews of JT on here, but far more negative other places. I'd take JT over 95% of the other QB starters in CFB and definitely over the 2 QBs in the Saturday night game(Bama and FSU)

you are absolutely correct. this is the only board i visit at this point because there is a lot of quality information and individuals here. im just not sure where all the negativity comes from tbh. i don't know how much better people actually think being a college football fan can get. i mean, maybe the stars align and we win 15 straight nc in 10 years like bama has but... even thats virtually impossible for bama. :p

these are the amazingly good days! we should be super happy right now.
