It's really an NFL problem (one of many, many) in how they structure guaranteed money for the top picks versus players picked lower in the draft. It should be leveled out significantly. It has been discussed a lot over the past 20 years, that, at the QB position especially, having a 2nd year of snaps makes a huge difference in career performance.
In Haskins' case, it's clear that he could benefit from staying. There's just no substitute for snaps at game speed. But from a business standpoint, it's difficult and possibly irresponsible to risk the difference in money from top to bottom of the 1st round, much less lower rounds.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, ask Cardale about that! He was seen as a slam dunk 1st round pick after the NC, returned to OSU and fell to the 4th, and is barely holding onto backup spots now. Not saying that he'd be setting the world on fire had he left after 2014, but he would've had a much bigger signing bonus, and more teams willing to give a 1st round pick the benefit of the doubt over a 4th rounder.[/
