QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. (All B1G, B1G OPOY, Silver Football, Rose Bowl MVP, R.I.P.)

Exactly. NFL GMs have consistently proved that they will overlook about every red flag in the world for arm talent.

Not comparing Haskins to either of those two idiots. Point is, if you have a rocket arm you are going in the first round even with all kinds of questions about the rest of you.

You take a guy like Haskins with proven accuracy, high football IQ and no off the field red flags and it's a no brainer.

The Unelectric Slide: Dwayne Haskins Gets Down

Ohio-State-football-quarterback-Dwayne-Haskins-running-slide-scramble.jpg

Dwayne Haskins’ first season as Ohio State’s starting quarterback has been loaded with highlights.

He has lit up opposing defenses through the air in a way that no Buckeye passer ever has before. But on the ground… well… that’s another story.

Haskins’ rushes haven’t shown up on any highlight reels this fall, unless you count the Not Top 10.

Saturday in the third quarter against Nebraska, Haskins stepped up in the pocket and appeared to have an open field in front of him. But he slid after just a one-yard gain, still far out of the reach of any Nebraska defenders.

“I know the one you’re talking about. It wasn’t the most graceful,” said Ohio State coach Urban Meyer on Monday.

There was a smattering of boos from the Ohio Stadium crowd after that play. Haskins certainly appeared to pass up the chance for a more significant gain in the name of personal safety.

When asked about it Monday, Meyer didn’t seem too upset. He wants his quarterbacks to pick up yards on the ground, but he also wants to keep them healthy.

“You like to see him get all he can and then get down,” Meyer said.

Having a quarterback who views running like a cat thinks about baths is unusual for the Buckeyes’ head coach.

“I knew he’s not obviously not a J.T. (Barrett),” Meyer said. But he also acknowledged that Haskins doesn’t look like another OSU quarterback who made a big play on the ground in 2017: Dwayne Haskins.

Projected 12th. Look if he wants to come back great but I think. He gone
Mock drafts and draft projections are wildly inconsistent, though, and mean nothing. This site projects Haskins as the eighth best QB prospect, which seems low to me, but that would certainly put him well outside the first round. The projection that will matter will be the one that Haskins gets from his "official" pre-draft evaluation.

That site is clearly trash then. Haskins at worst will be the 3rd highest rated QB in this draft class. Thorson? Finley? GMAFB

Herbert, Lock, Grier, Jones (from Duke).... Probably missing a few others too. I think all could be in the conversation with good workouts and combines. Not a lock to go 1st round if he struggles in these last 4 games. Really baffled this year by his inability to escape the pocket and pick up some crucial yards to make 3rd downs more manageable or even move the chains occasionally on a short 3rd down run. I think we all over-estimated his running ability based off a few running plays in "The Game" '17.

OHIO STATE NOTEBOOK: SHEA PATTERSON INFORMS DWAYNE HASKINS ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE, ALEX GRINCH DEFENDS NOT PLAYING BRENDON WHITE SOONER AND RPOS COULD RETURN

98576_h.jpg

To prepare for Saturday’s game against Michigan State, Dwayne Haskins did what normally does: watch film. By Tuesday, he had already watched five game of the Spartans.

Ahead of this weekend’s game, he did something a little bit different, though. He got some help from Ohio State’s biggest rival: Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson.

“I've known Shea since I was in eighth grade,” Haskins said. “We played in the All-Star game together, Elite 11, all that type of stuff. I hit him up asking how they played defensively, and he just gave me some tips going into this week.”

Patterson’s Wolverines handled the Spartans, beating them 21-7 on Oct. 20. Patterson went 14-for-25 for 212 yards and two touchdowns, adding 24 yards on eight rushes.

Haskins and Patterson spoke for about 20 minutes around noon on Thursday. The Michigan signal-caller's advice was fairly simple.

“They're going to bring a lot of different stuff,” said Haskins, recounting Patterson’s advice. “Watched their stuff. Lot of empty stuff. They brought six-man pressure to five-man protection. We're just going to figure out what we need to do as far as gameplan goes and I'm going to get myself together for different types of pressures and looks I get this week.”

Patterson isn’t the only high-profile quarterback with whom Haskins has a relationship. He also knows Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, and he trades scriptures with Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

Eventually, Haskins will play against Patterson’s team, and there’s a chance he play against Murray or Tagovailoa, but he doesn’t root against the Michigan quarterback – as long as he’s not playing against him.

“I don't wish bad upon anybody,” Haskins said. “He's doing well this year. Looking forward to playing them when we do play them. But right now it's Michigan State, so he's helping me out with Michigan State.

The unlikely alliance won’t be there in two weeks, though, when Ohio State prepares to take on Michigan.

“I'm not going to talk to him that week,” Haskins said.

People (myself included) questioned his desire to be a true competitor for the Buckeyes versus playing safe to avoid injury for NFL draft. Saw a bit of the first in the first half of Mich State game and then he took off on a scramble, lowered his head and got a first down (called back for a penalty) instead of going out of bounds. After that run, he stayed in the pocket longer and stepped into throws and, to me, looked like a competitor and not a stat patter avoiding contact looking ahead to draft. Hope we see that attitude here on out and bringing in Tate may have lit that fire to become more physical. Whatever it was, I noticed a difference.

No offense but people who thought that must not have been watching early season when he brought us back again and again. Just cause he doesn't show the fire on his sleeve doesn't mean he doesn't have it.

Also is it just me or is it since Meyer was brought back we started attacking less vertical down the field and more side to side crap we used to harp on Beck etc about?
