QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

The first drive with a field goal. Stroud handed it off and if he'd pulled it he would have walked into the end zone. Instead the running back ran into a brick wall.

He also hit Olave in the hands and he dropped it iirc.

I think way too much is made of Stroud's running/not running.

There can be a strategy other than just running if he pulls it. Say he pulls the front side run and turns that into a naked boot with more pass run options. Leaving the options open is what would cause the Defense issues and at the moment it's not there. I don't want him trying to start running a lot either, just the occasional sneaky keep or misdirection with him. That run he had was glorious if the BS holding wasnt called it would have made him look even more capable.

There needs to be at least a threat to pull it to run their current RPO attack or why do it? It's not fooling anyone and it just invites extra defenders into the box in obvious run situations without having to account for the QB, which evens out the numbers and eliminates the numbers advantage in the box.

I'm with you, the occasional keep would be nice.

Not at the top of the list of shit that's wrong right now was what I was getting at.

Better OL play is a much more impactful focus to augment the run game imo.

Bumper crop of offensive skill position talent in place for the next couple of years. Elite, championship caliber skill players.
It will be a damn crying shame to watch Stud and the defensive coaches waste it.

I was begging for him to keep. Said right when they got down there he can walk in if he keeps one. That was the time.

The Game is no time to “reserve” plays or opportunities. Day could have called that one for him and set the tone. He knows there’s no one watching Stroud on a keep.

But yeah…then the mis-throw/drop by Olave too. A giant cluster f every where that day.

we need better, not more

Agreed. But you know what they say about projecting out OL?.... I'd rather they bring a few more in and see if they can be developed. But better clay to mold to start with would be preferred for sure.

Don't think we necessarily need to be 10-deep with 4 and 5*'s in the WR room either when only 3 see the field at one time. We're going to lose 2 every year if they don't see significant PT by year 2 anyway. I'd rather invest those resources in the OL and DL until 4 and 5* lineman start transferring out bc they aren't seeing the field. That hasn't been an issue as long as I can remember.
