QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

This is just silly. Haskin's was much better then Burrow his first year started. Joe Burrow was no Joe Burrow during that competition. He made a huge jump his last year.
Meh, he was learning a new offense with shit receivers too. I watched that Miami game to start the season and he willed LSU to a win. Different guys with different styles. We likely get the same outcomes had it been Burrow except he probably plays that last year here and Dwane transfers, and possibly dont get the Fields transfer.

Let's just hope the correct decision is made this time. While the constellation prize was great, Haskins is no Joe Burrow.
You're right. He was much better then very mediocre 2018 Joe Burrow. That choice would have led to 3-5 loss season with the texas tech defense that suited up as the silver bullets.

Joe's far superior 2019 season while Dwayne was an NFL player? Hard to compare those.

Redshirt freshmen we shouldn’t forget about in 2021

CJ STROUD, QB, OHIO STATE

10272444.jpg

A borderline national name at this point, Stroud is one of three freshmen battling for Ohio State’s starting job. And while Ryan Day is expected to take this competition well into fall camp, Stroud is the player I'd point to as the likely starter to this point. A 247Sports five-star in the 2020 cycle, Stroud played in just two games last year in a shortened season. He made a heck of an impression against Michigan State, popping off a 48-yard touchdown run in relief of Justin Fields. Don’t let that rushing production twist your impression of Stroud: He’s very much a pass-first signal caller. A strong-armed QB with the accuracy to all three levels and the ability, even dating back to high school, to throw people open, Stroud promises to quickly be among the more productive passers as part of Ohio State’s dynamic offensive system. Stroud would be a decent long-shot Heisman bet at this point in the spring. His odds will only get worse and worse as the nation starts to know his name.

Just sayin': FWIW, Mookie Cooper is also profiled in the article.

C.J. Stroud always believed.

The Ohio State quarterback just needed everybody else to get up to speed with what he could do.

Two years ago Stroud was a three-star prospect before dominating at the Elite 11 competition, changing everything about his recruitment and putting his future on a completely different trajectory. He would skyrocket into five-star territory, virtually every major program in the country would be calling him and the kid from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., was something of an overnight celebrity.

Some of that did catch Stroud by surprise. But even in the middle of his senior season when Lettermen Row paid a visit to the eventual Buckeyes commit and now projected heir apparent to Justin Fields, Stroud was never unsure about his own potential.

“What if The Opening didn’t happen? That’s a great question, and honestly I don’t have a certain answer,” Stroud said then. “I’d probably be staying close to home, maybe somewhere in the Pac-12. But I feel like my senior season would have been the same no matter what. I would have been proving myself. I feel like schools would have reached out, but I don’t know if it would have been to this extent. I think my senior year, though, is showing people that I can actually really play football.

“When I was going [to compete] this summer as a three star, I was happy with that. I was like: I’m going to show people why I’m this good, because the rest isn’t up to me to decide. All I can do is control what I can control. I can’t control what a reporter thinks about me unless I’ve talked to them in person. But I can control what happens on the field, so I wanted to show everybody that I’m the best quarterback in the country.”

As is always the case, the college quarterbacks act more as coaches to the younger signal callers and don't take a ton of reps. The one quarterback I saw who probably threw more then anyone and looked very good doing it was CJ Stroud. Physically, Stroud looks great and has really filled out in his upper body. He made a few throws during 7v7s that looked like NFL level throws and he would be a good candidate to have if you're looking for a breakout player this fall.

STROUD FOR HEISMAN. Speaking quarterbacks who have to play a competitive snap but have all the hype in the world, CJ Stroud and Bryce Young are tied with the third-best odds to take home the Heisman Trophy at 10/1 (+1000).

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels leads all players with 5/1 odds, for some reason.

Here are your odds, according to BetOnline:
  • JT Daniels - Georgia - 5/1
  • Spencer Rattler - Oklahoma - 7/1
  • Bryce Young - Alabama - 10/1
  • CJ Stroud - Ohio State - 10/1
  • D.J. Uiagalelei - Clemson - 11/1
  • Sam Howell - UNC - 14/1
  • Kedon Slovis - USC - 16/1
  • Matt Corral - Ole Miss - 16/1
  • D’Eriq King - Miami - 18/1
  • Bijan Robinson - Texas - 20/1
  • Breece Hall - Iowa State - 25/1
  • Emory Jones - Florida - 25/1

To be honest, though, they probably could have just put "Ohio State Starting Quarterback" on the board with 15/1 odds, and people (present company included) would have gladly taken it.

Just sayin': Somebody must be pretty sure CJ Stroud will be named QB1.
