So apparently I know NOTHING about grayshirting.

Congrats, Cardale!

  1. No way Jones grayshirts. This is not a scenario that happens often, mostly because it is a commitment to pay for a year of school. Almost any player with other big time offers will take four or five free years at a decent school, over paying a year here. Especially when you consider that most don't have a money tree in their back yard. I sometimes feel like this is thrown around as a viable option, ever since Boeckman did it...that is an "almost never happens" deal. I'd be surprised if I see it again in the next 10 years.
  2. The battle here is grades. The answer isn't Ohio State or Toledo...it's Toledo or JC with a CHANCE to go to Ohio State, someday.

Hey, at the time I didn't think there was any chance either...but that was before it became evident that prep school was in his future. Toledo this year or OSU next year? That is an easier decision than PSU this year or OSU next year...

Ohio State Buckeyes: Signee Cardale Jones of Glenville says he will play for OSU regardless of who is coaching team

Ohio State signee Cardale Jones from Glenville says he is committed to playing for the Buckeyes despite Jim Tressel's resignation.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ohio State signee Cardale Jones of Glenville is not going to let the resignation of Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel change his mind on which school he wants to play for.

"I saw the news Monday morning on ESPN," said Jones, a quarterback who will grayshirt. "I was disappointed and still am. It bothers me but it doesn't affect my decision."

Jones feels he belongs at OSU.

"I'm still going to Ohio State because I'm an Ohio kid," he said. "To me, OSU means they get the best players from the state so that means I'm one of them. Who coaches there doesn't affect my decision but I'm sure [Tressel] did what's best for the program."

Grayshirting is applied to a player who signs a letter of intent in February, but doesn't report to the school in the fall. He delays entry until midyear and the NCAA five-year clock doesn't start until the player enrolls as a full-time student.

Jones will attend a prep school before enrolling at OSU in January.

Can someone help clear up some confusion? I have read and seen discussed that Jones is having grade issues even now and some who are in the know predict that he will not qualify academically at OSU. But my question is if he has yet to take classes at ANY prep school as of yet then how can we be worried? You have to be in class to be getting por grades. Did he take some kind of early class? Is there something from Glenville that has people worried? -If so I thought that's the entire reason for prep school. It just seems premature to worry at this point. Insight anyone? He is still my dark horse to steal our hearts at some time during is time at OSU. He seems the type of kid you want on your roster.

Buckeye QB commit showing talent, prepping Ohio for Big 33
Published: Tuesday, June 14, 2011
RYAN LOY, The Patriot-News By RYAN LOY, The Patriot-News

There are bound to be some questions as to what the future holds for football players as they head off to college.

Given the recent happenings at Ohio State, some would likely assume Buckeye commit Cardale Jones would be second-guessing his decision to head to Columbus. But as he prepares to lead the Ohio team in this year?s Big 33 Football Classic, the quarterback said there was never a question where he?d be playing in college.

?I?m just a loyal person, and Ohio State has been loyal to me over the past two or three years,? Jones said. ?I?m going to stick with them.?

Jones said the adversity facing the current Buckeye players will force everyone on the team, especially the quarterbacks, to ?grow up very fast.?

Though he?ll be just a true freshman, the 6-foot-5 Jones said he?s ready to compete for the quarterback position at Ohio State, vacated by Terrelle Pryor.

After seeing Jones? performances in this week?s practices, Ohio head coach Matt Dennison said he can see the potential threat the quarterback can pose for defenses.

?Cardale?s got a lot of talent. He?s got a rocket for an arm,? Dennison said. ?He?s really caught on quick to what we?re trying to do. He?s making really good decisions out there.?

Penn paper seems to think Cardale isn't a running threat? Well, we'll see how the Penn coaches cover him. And Devin Smith is gonna light 'em up! Should be a great game with lots of scoring. Both teams look capable of throwing the the ball . Cardale is a great kid! Hope he gets qualified.
