I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by Jones' actions on social media.

I'm not bashing Jones but he's the same kid that was sent to a military academy to straighten him out a bit. Then when he was interviewed about it last year he laughingly talked about how he broke rules and didn't complete an entire year. Then instead of rallying around his team or putting on a headset when he isn't playing, he puts a towel over his head and sits by himself on the bench.

Take it FWIW but he just seems like hes having no fun playing the game this year and is not connected to the rest of the offensive players.

I hope that this kid hasn't taken the press NFL specualation seriously. He has great potential, but it remains potential. Buckeye offense was flattered by Herman's excellent game plans for the last three games last year.

I am a huge Cardale fan, but I think he will benefit from not starting and from focusing on the development of his raw talent.

It seems to me like the coaches are failing to call plays to take advantage of Cardale's biggest strength- his arm.

If your primary play calls are going to be option plays and swing passes in the flat, that really isn't putting Cardale in a position to utilize his skill set.

I think the problems on offense in general and Cardale in particular revolve around several things.

1. The offensive line isn't blocking well.

2. The loss of Herman is being felt strongly and the play calling has been questionable at best (for example, on third and 4 with JT in they throw the ball twice and fail to convert- if Cardale was in they probably would have run two QB draws- it just feels like the staff doesn't understand or is utterly failing to utilize their talent).

3. The loss of Smith, Spencer and Brown is being felt strongly- apparently no deep threat has emerged for Cardale to throw to (Smith) and the perimeter blocking hasn't been great (Spencer and Brown) to say the least.

4. The coaches mishandled the QB situation: both are underperforming and seemingly lacking confidence- almost certainly due to the uncertainty at the position thanks to the coaches.

5. Partially blaming this on #4- turnovers.

What's the answer? Well, hopefully Warriner picks his game up and the play calling and play of the offensive line improves drastically.

I think the young WRs will naturally get better with perimeter blocking and someone has to emerge as a deep threat, right? Right!?

As far as the QBs, I really don't think there is a good answer at this point. Hopefully Meyer can work a miracle there, but at the very least can we please call plays that utilize each player's respective skill set a little better?

Which is why I think we saw articles the past week claiming that we're switching to a more pro-style offense.
Personally, I don't like it. It seems to have thrown the whole team off-kilter.

That said... (and this isn't aimed at the quote above) ... if we're deciding QBs based on twitter edits, that's just ridiculous. Cardale did show us some stuff against VTech... playcalling was a bit wtf at times, but the offense was still getting it done. Fast forward 2 weeks and its in shambles.
If he doesn't have the magic anymore, then switch - but not because of Twitter. I personally prefer JT. I prefer his cool-headed demeanor, admire it even. Love how he distributes the ball. But he's been pretty inconsistent as well. Maybe it's time to give him a string of starts to see if he settles.
Not cool at all with throwing Cardale under the bus though. Figure this out and get both of them back in it.

The entire team isn't concentrated on their job. Penalties everywhere, rudimentary mistakes everywhere - by people that know better, etc. Everyone talking about the OLine needing to gel... ffs, it's 4 returning starters. Maybe it should be 1 or 2 less returning starters if they can't get their head right?
Got 1 more MAC before conference play - first 2 Indiana and Maryland. If they get cracking now, the offense could be hitting its stride in October and peaking in November.
I think the entire team got a little cocky and complacent after VTech. All the hype leading up to a revenge match, the spin move, Thomas breaking ankles, amazing catches, etc. Now you got a 5-year vet dropping a snap off his chest and the sure-handed kid grassing another one, to say nothing of interceptions.

And as soon as that gets fixed, need to figure out wth is with play calling. Do we need Warinner upstairs? I'm not sure if that's the silver bullet. Is the playcalling in shambles b/c of this nonsense about becoming a Pro offense? Stop trying to reinvent the wheel and get back to what's worked.

I was in his camp up until yesterday. His actions have not been good. Now the coaches are far from blameless in creating this situation, but the team really needs the guy on the bench to not stir up shit and make the situation worse. To our knowledge, JT followed that script when he wasn't the guy, and it's VERY disappointing to see Cardale not following his lead.

Now the coaches are far from blameless in creating this situation, but the team really needs the guy on the bench to not stir up [Mark May] and make the situation worse. To our knowledge, JT followed that script when he wasn't the guy, and it's VERY disappointing to see Cardale not following his lead.

People always want to root for, embrace, and overcredit the guy who has a redemption story (probably because most of us have fucked up now and again and can more easily identify with someone who doesn't seem "too perfect") over the steady Eddie who doesn't have a redemption story because he's never screwed up enough to need any redemption. I've always thought that society would be a lot better off if it celebrated the steady Eddies a lot more and have been rooting for JT for that reason (although I have been and still am in 100% "trust the coaches [at least Meyer and Warinner [jury's still out on Beck] regarding who they play and how much they play them). I give you a lot of credit for having a rooting interest for Cardale based on his perceived personal growth arc (I say perceived just because I don't think any of us can really say that we know him: Not pejoratively) but keeping an open mind about whether he's the best option as dissonant evidence comes in.

I do believe that right now the team is missing Tom Herman sorely and that Warriner isn't getting it done. Not sure the qb coach is getting it done either. I don't put all the blame on Cardale, but I think Barrett is more even keel and a better team leader. Line has to start stepping up.

A college HC should never put a priority on getting a kid drafted. Its up to the kid, not the coach, and Cardale is blowing it and its on his own accord. He was at a major advantage last year because teams had little film on him and dared him to throw, ad EzE at them up. Now teams are daring him to throw And he's not making the best decisions and it may have cost him his job. Urban shouldn't be worrying about his draft stock as the NFL is very different than CFB as well, and if he can't read college defenses, lord help him against grown man football teams
I also think that the coaches felt they had more time w JT and all things being equal "owed" CJ a shot.

CJ has blown that and is finding how quickly BuckeyeNation can turn on you.

I have no problem with all things being equal they start the older guy with more NFL potential (in theory). Cardale starting and having a great year gets him a top-5 pick, perhaps #1 if you consider how important the QB is in the NFL. Urban doesn't owe him that, but it sure helps recruit your next crop of QBs, and we know the importance placed on recruiting. And with JT on the bench you are almost guaranteeing he will be around next year. Cardale is the fun loving guy with a lot of god given talent. JT is a grinder. The team really seems to mimic the QB, when the opponent is supposedly weak they listen to the hype and go have fun. Right now the team needs a grinder as their leader.
Cardale has likely cost himself a really big paycheck in these first 3 games. #FailForCardale....

I like JT but to me Cardale has the higher ceiling if the OL settles. I say run the ball and give Cardale easy throws to begin next game and mix in more QB runs. Get his confidence back up and then open up the play book. Cardale looked terrified taking the field on first drive. The pressure is getting to both of them. Have a talk with them. Explain your plan and hope it all works out.

In addition, the Buckeyes aren't taking care of the football. 5 turnovers against NIU was ridiculous. They have how many so far this year? 8? 9?

FWIW, other than Wisconsin, Jones has yet to play a clean game with no turovers.

As a starting QB, jones has thrown 7 TDs and 5 picks. This year alone he's only thrown 2 TDs and 3 picks, and has had numerous hand-off and snap fumbles.

The kid has a cannon for an arm, but he isn't exactly known for a mistake free game. For every touchdown bomb he throws, he also tosses one to the defense.
