Make sure you know the specs of the HDTV that you eventually want to buy. The PS3 doesn't scale video images to whatever spec you want - it only works on HDTV's that have 1080P and accept a 60 hertz signal, or an HDTV that supports images natively at 720P. Even though you might own an HDTV, if it's not compatable it will only display in 480P (which will look like crap).

That is true, but aren't 99% of the HDTVs out there 1080p or 720p (actually most of the newer plasmas are 768p, but that is essentially 720)

Biggest thing I would recommend is to go with LCD if you are getting it mainly for the PS3. With Plasma's you have to worry about Burn In and Image Retention issues. There are some good ones out there from Vizio or Westinghouse. I'd find what you are looking at and then go to avsforums.com and see what they say about it, those guys are crazy smart.

While there are many more 1080P sets available now, they must be 60 hertz to be compatable with PS3 (not 24 or 30 hertz). But you are correct that just about every HDTV now will accept 720P. But if you want to watch Blu-ray HD movies you really need to have a 1080P set at 60 hertz to get the most out of it. But the problem with that is that most movies look better at 24 hertz (which is closer to the true 24 frames per second of film). My guess is that eventually Sony will come out with a firmware update to correct the issue.

I got the 60 gig PS3 for Christmas with Madden 07 and NBA 07. I'm playing on an LCD TV but not the LCD HD. The graphics are still unbelieveable! The PS3 i got was $600 also but it was definently worth it. If you are going to get the HD TV, make sure you get the HDMI Cable (sold seperately) at around $50 or else it won't work.

awesome link - thanks.. madden is alot of fun now that the rosters are updated. we ripped an ipod collection to the ps3 and had it power a new years party which was pretty cool. i can put downloaded torrent movies on a flash drive and watch them on the ps3 which is very cool and convient for me as i download tons of movies and sometime dont want everyone in my room watching it. im sure the 360 does much of the same.

fall of man was a fun game, online play was fun too. we got call of duty 3 which is a cool game as well.. havnt had much time to play need for speed carbon yet but my roommates say it's a good one. i cant wait for some of the newer games and to get away from the launch games. one game i am going to buy is fight night 3.

Are PS3's still hard to get? Because I saw one at Best Buy and then at EB Games, and contemplated buying it to sell on eBay, after hearing stories of people making hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars.
Doubtful. The speculators from the Christmas shopping season are trying to dump them now, so the market is flooded with excess units. Our last Sunday paper had at least 50 Wiis and PS3s listed for sale in the classifieds, and I saw the PS3's at my local Target a few nights ago too.

going to get fight night 3 tonight, the gran tursmio demo is nuts, the graphics are very nice :)

fall of man was fun, not as good as gears of war though

NFS carbon was what i expected it to be, they did a cool job of doing the characters.. superimposed video into the game and made them look like graphics.. very cool

Gamestop has an ad running that if you bring in an old PS2 with two controllers and an 8mb memory card you will get $100 off a PS3. I called the one closest to me and they have them in stock. You must print out the ad to get the deal though....check out slickdeals.net or whatever

So I went and got a PS3 today, pretty sweet graphics. I have only played TigerWoods and Resistance. Tiger is horrible and pretty boring, Resistance is awesome and very addicting. I finally took a break from that game. I have yet to watch any movies on there, but I did pick up The Last Samurai on BluRay to watch and check out. Hopefully it doesnt let me down....also this PS3 seems not exactly very user friendly compared to the PS2. Im sure I will figure it all out as time goes on and I mess around with shit...
