Proof of the Existence of God

St. Anselm is a little too esoteric for me. Kinch says that it is the best argument for God. Well, from a philosophical rather than theological level, the first cause argument is the best. It's simple, too.

Actually, I say that this is my favorite argument for the existence of God. The whole a priori thing makes it fun, unless everyone refuses to discuss the proof in a strictly a priori fashion.

NMD - If you take "religion" to mean one's personal belief system, then what 85 is saying makes absolute sense. I think the way 85 is considering the word "religion" even an atheist is practicing a "religion." In that circumstance, a person is nothing without his religion, and one's views on everything is based on its practice.

Edit - Looks like 85 answered before I could answer for him :p

He clearly did not mean it as you have stated, because he said "...for a great number of people, their position on gays, gay marriage, abortion, prayer in school, etc are based upon their religous beliefs?"
and this...
"The movements to reverse Roe, or outlaw same sex marriage, etc. are almost universally driven by religion."

Since everyone operates within a belief system, he is certainly not including everyone in his statement (agnostics and atheists, it seems to me). I think BrutuStrength's comments on mores and your won on belief systems is closer to reality, but 85 was not saying this.

As far as my other comments, 85 chose those subjects, not me, and since I sense some tension regarding my comments and the reply from Brewtus, I will not follow up on that.

a priori
(Latin ‘from what comes before’) in logic, an argument that is known to be true, or false, without reference to experience; the converse of a posteriori.
Space, time, reality, and negation exist independently of experience and arguments from these are a priori. Immanuel Kant asserts that we do not derive these concepts from experience, but that through their application we acquire experience. In morality also he declares that the ideas implied in the words ‘good’ and ‘bad’ are innate and imperative in every mind, independently of actual observation. In current usage, the term a priori refers to whatever seems not to derive from experience.

How do God-fearing Christians explain yesterday's events in Connecticut?

A "loving" God would allow for 25 innocent children to be slaughtered in their classroom?

God has been taken out of the schools..don't blame God..if your an atheist why do you even care? People live and die in your world..they're not much different than animals to you? If you have Guilt or Care for these Parents and Kids then there must be a God.

Are you fucking kidding me? You think being an atheist makes people care less? I could turn that right back on you. If you believe in a god, then you shouldn't care, because all those kids are going to heaven. Having a logical outlook on the world doesn't mean someone doesn't care.

Good also doesn't exist without its contrast, and even with constant reminders we are fickle, short-sighted creatures.

I am not saying incidents like this are orchestrated to add perspective.

I am so sick of this quote.. my face book feed has had like 5 different people post that crap! YOU CAN PRAY ANYTIME YOU WANT IN SCHOOL! no one ever said you cant pray, no one WILL EVER TELL YOU THAT YOU CANNOT PRAY.. its a ridiculous statement.. All people ever said is you cannot MAKE OTHER PEOPLE PRAY or encourage them to pray, that is not the schools function.. and if that offends you, then you are a moron.
