I love the idea that's been thrown around in here that Oklahoma is some sort of MBB powerhouse. They're in the FF this year because they have one incredible player and some nice complimentary pieces. After this season is over and Hield is gone, they're likely to be on the same track on which Ohio State is riding.

Hell, they're probably going to lose out on an elite 2017 recruit, who plays his high school ball in freaking Norman, to Kentucky.

I need to go back and read his recruiting thread and what was being said about what he brought to the Buckeyes. Not that I disagree at all with your take here, but it definitely is pause for concern about what the coaches and recruiting services saw in him.

Edit: Pretty good insight reading back through AJ's thread....
This was instructive.

I imagine there will be a rush on edits in that thread.

Thad hasn't thrown any of the players under the bus, and in fact has said nicer things about Giddens, Mitchell, Grandstaff and Harris than one could reasonably expect.
He hasn't?

What part about "the right players are staying" or "players who will cherish the opportunity" gibberish do you not think is a shot at the dearly departed.

That conference has also improved significantly over the last 2 seasons. Maryland was a force this season, Indiana finally had things click for them, MSU was the juggernaut they always are, Michigan was good when playing inspired, Wisconsin had a solid year, Purdue played much better than I thought they would, Iowa had a solid season but faded later.

As others have stated, Ohio State is not a basketball school. Their recent run of success has been historic in terms of winning %, and post season tourney success.. At the end of the day, Ohio State is no Kansas/UNC/Duke when it comes to basketball and the expectation that they should be is setting yourself up for a constant letdown.
You'll all thank god in August that you aren't a fan of Kansas/UNC/Duke/Kentucky.

Gotta say, I'm looking at our roster for next year and it's looking pretty good. Tate, Loving, Lyle, Williams, Bates-Diop is a pretty solid core. I think Thompson showing potential as a big and taking over the paint is important. This isn't a 1 and done or 2 and done school. That isn't how Thad built this program and I don't want the switch now. I think he recruited too many players that thought they could be 1 and done or had someone in their ear telling them that. I think Thad got away from his normal recruiting and will get back to his recruiting 4 year guys and leaders.
If this downward trend continues for another 3-4 years maybe we will see Thad isn't what he used to be, but I just want to see how this core plays next year, see a team that can crack the final top 25 7-8 times a decade, beat some good teams, and make a few runs deep into the tourney. Basketball is different than football, make the second weekend and it's a good year, the third weekend is a great year regardless, making the final ap poll means your a top 5 seed, there are a lot more teams, really good ones when you throw in the A10 and Big East and some really great mid majors that make March fun.
