Premier League (Official Thread)

I was just in the middle of writing up something about how poor Spurs had been when Defoe finally got the breakthrough.

I don't think he had been bad, but the way Villa were playing really didn't suit his style. He needs a little space and to receive the ball facing the goal. With the injury, substitution and change in tactics for Villa opened things up enough for him to get in the game.

I was more disappointed in Adebayor - he's the one who needs to be the dangerous player in tight spaces and on balls coming in through the air. His first touch hasn't been very good though and he's been caught flat-footed at times.

...and with that, Spurs finally get a bit of what they should have all year long a second goal to (hopefully) put a game away after the first one opens the other team up.

Looks like the real Aston Villa has finally showed up. Some defensive lapses & Spurs are up 2-0. Bale was probably laughing as he scored that one.

Glad to see extended minutes for Parker today. They've missed his toughness in midfield when trying to close out games this season.

Didn't know he was still alive. Good to see him back in action. Always perennially underappreciated.

Aston Villa opponents in EPL matches are now on an 11-0 run. I'm not even mad. That's amazing.

Feel bad for Guzan. Makes that 3-1 win at Anfield all the more embarrassing for Liverpool.

Make it a 12-0 run now. Wow. Just pitiful defending.

Suffered an achilles injury before Euro. Got his first brief playing time last week. Of course, 'arry has already started making noise about trying to bring him over to QPR in January, but he's very much needed at Spurs.

Hope to be getting Kaboul and Assou-Ekotto back soon too.

I remember him getting hurt, just didn't know he was back healthy again. I thought Harry said he wouldn't be making any January additions, just a few departures.

And there's the hat-trick for Bale. Spurs definitely needed a game like this to get some confidence going forward.

13. Hat trick for Bale.

Villa have ZERO shots on goal today. That's just absurd. Think he leaves for Real Madrid this summer ? Probably won't make Cristiano Ronaldo to happy as he's very fond of his dominion over the left side.

I had read where he made some comments about Parker and Adebayor - implying that they were discontent. Sounded like one of of his typical car window interviews.

Probably just trying to get some blows in at Levy. He could use all the help he can get at QPR, but I can't see Spurs realistically letting either of those two go in January. Just doesn't make any sense for them to do so.

I doubt this summer, but who knows? He did just sign an extension with club-record wages, but Spurs will never be able to match what the biggest clubs can pay. At the very least, the extension should give Spurs the luxury of holding on to him a while longer while waiting to extract the highest price possible. Getting some Champions League football certainly wouldn't hurt either, but there's still a long way to go on that one.

It's a logjam for fourth place right now, with Chelsea only three points clear of that group, in third. I don't think West Brom will be able to hang around, but Everton might. Even if they both fall off, we'd still be looking at three teams for those last two spots.
