Premier League (Official Thread)

It's not NBC (since NBC always uses the int'l video feed), but the FA really mic'd the heck out of the nets this season.

I'm picking it up a lot more this season than in seasons past (i.e. the sound of the ball smashing into the net).

Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches admits he is unhappy at White Hart Lane due to a lack of first-team action amid reported interest in his services from Inter Milan.

Chiriches had a bright start to his Tottenham career before picking up a back injury that ruled him out for much of the second half of the season, and his limited performances this season have been little short of disastrous. One particularly poor match in the Europa League has led to the Romanian falling behind Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Fazio and Eric Dier in the pecking order, so he could well be allowed to leave in January to allow Maurico Pochettino to bring in his own choice of central defender.

Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Fazio and Eric Dier

How bad do you have to suck to fall behind that group?

It's not a hypothetical:

Let's not kid ourselves here though. Not only will Spurs not be able to sell him, but he'll be getting starts again before we know it. Playing CB for Spurs is like playing QB for the Cleveland Browns. Through injuries or embarrassing bed-shitting, you're eventually relying on third choice bums to help you limp toward the end of the season.

Amid all the chaos for tme the last couple weeks professionally, medically and whatnot, I didn't realize until now that I hadn't set up games for pick'em for this week. It wouldn't be fair to set up a week on such short notice, so we'll skip this week and resume with next week's matches.

I have added a bet for Manchester United v. Liverpool for this week.

Anybody else catch the Premier League Breakaway on NBCSN for the eight 10am games ? I thought it was pretty neat, despite some chaotic moments when a lot was going on.

Throughout the weekend, I kept wondering if FOX or ESPN's Premier League broadcast teams would broadcast from the site of the Super Bowl (as NBC did), if they had the TV rights that NFL season. ESPN wouldn't because they don't have the Super Bowl rights, but I wondered if FOX would.

Obviously, if NBC doesn't retain EPL rights, the new broadcaster would step up and try to match what NBC did. But I still don't think FOX would broadcast on-site at the Super Bowl (not that I want to hear Eric Wynalda speak).

With only four points separating 3rd (Arsenal) & 7th (Spurs), we've got some good drama ahead of us. Southampton are pretty much toast after their early season surge of beating the lesser teams though. Liverpool & Spurs finally got their shit together, but United and Arsenal have been topsy turvy all season, so I'm looking forward to the finish. That being said, I can't see Chelsea relinquishing its lead seeing as how City haven't been all that remarkable this season.

Liverpool 2-1 Man City. HUGE result for the Reds, who are on fire of late. City simply couldn't contend with Liverpool's relentless on-ball pressure and two very fine goals from Henderson & Coutinho. That 5-0 rampage over Newcastle last weekend has been erased from City's memory after the week they've had.

After the way LFC began the season to be where they are now is pretty good. No one in the PL has more points since Xmas. A top 4 finish is still possible, and needed to keep guys like Sterling and to fill gaps in the roster.
