Premier League (Official Thread)

Oh, yeah... AVB got his walking papers this morning. Can't say I'm surprised.

He had some arguments in his favor. Highest PL points total ever for the club last season. Ahead of last season's pace this season up until yesterday. Highest win percentage for a Spurs manager since 1899 or something. Still, those results belied the performances which often ranged from shit to boring. It's one thing to play like that and grind out results. It's quite another to play like that and get drilled. In the end, the style of play AVB brought about clashed with the culture and history of the club. I honestly think most Spurs fans would rather be a mid-table club that plays entertaining football than one that loiters just outside the top four and plays uninspired.

Who knows where they go from here? I think a lot of fans read stuff from want Klinsmann... but he was a disaster as a manager at the club level and he's fully committed to the USMNT with a brand new contract. They could go after guys like Di Matteo or Benitez if they want to be known as the club that recycles Chelsea's trash (not that I have an opinion on whether either would be good or bad, but that would be the narrative.)

Meanwhile on the same morning AVB got sacked they held the draw for the Europa League round of 32. Spurs drew Dnipro, who are managed by... Juande Ramos. How's that for poetry?

Well, I got my Spurs back, if only for a day. I suppose it helps that the caretaker manager has nothing to lose. They went out with an attacking lineup, and then subbed to bolster the attack even further and it paid off. Spurs will never be dependable defensively - it's not in their DNA. With that being the case, the manager may as well embrace that and go for it at the attacking end like they did today.

Also, so glad that AVB had kept Adebayor off the pitch all season over some petty dick measuring contest. He clearly wouldn't have been useful.
