Premier League (Official Thread)

Good result for my Saints, especially since the keeper is hurt and they have very young players at the back. Still in position to contend for the 6 and 7 spots if they bump their form a bit.

@Buckeye513, glad to have you back in the thread.

Spurs were utterly painful to watch yet again but got three points. They've played like ass, but are ahead of their points total from this time last season and only three points off second place.

Seems like everytime I turn around this season Lloris is having another howler. Don't know what his problem is at the moment. Even before he was concussed he was making some questionable decisions.

They have Liverpool next weekend which should be an interesting match. The Spurs haven't done too horribly against the top half of the table, losses to Arsenal and City, and draws against Chelsea, Everton and I feel inclined to toss MUFC in there as well. That and the City/Arsenal match make for a nice week for the league.

BTW...Everton is good this year. Really good. Only one loss and they have played almost all the biggies once...they have 5-6 games where they should pile up points now. Also watch Crystal Palace...they are getting results and could get out of relegation position.

I didn't realize they only had one loss, but I did realize they were damn good, the mercyside derby was one of the best soccer matches I have seen.

Not to mention a very enjoyable team to watch as well. They have quite the pool of young talent, even though some of them are on loan like Lukaku & Deulofeu. Ross Barkley has impressed me every time I've seen him play & he's excellent with both feet as well as having a thunderous shot. Martinez has them all believing and they all just look like they're having fun out there.

Who would have thought they would be that much better without Moyes.

Suarez! that's all that needs to be said.

Well, that and "AVB OUT".

Liverpool played really well - not taking anything away from them. That was a terrible lineup from Spurs for a home match. AVB put every holding/defensive/backtracking player he had available to him. It was as if they weren't even going to try to score a goal - let alone get a result. To do that and then let in five goals... fucking miserable. If not for some bad luck on the part of Liverpool, they could have scored eight or more.

It's a shame. I thought he had learned from his disastrous spell at Chelsea. I think he did a fine job last season and I thought he had turned a corner. It's as if he came into this season thinking that the goodwill that he earned form last season gave him license to go back to his old ways.

In the past when Spurs would get their teeth kicked in like this (and they're always good for a few of these per season) there would be some hint of glory in their performance. They may have had a guy sent off in the first ten minutes and let in four before halftime, but they'd come out with a swashbuckling second half and put in a couple goals of their own. There has been none of that this season, and little hope for it on the horizon.

There was no reason to think Spurs would be as good or better this season after losing a player like Gareth Bale. Still, they shouldn't be THIS bad.

Terrible defensive display from Arsenal. The highlight for me was Mertesacker somehow losing David Silva in the box while facing his direction. Flamini divided his time between being awful and invisible. City is ridiculous at home on the counter, but Szczesny was hung out to dry all game.

It was also one of those games that could've ended 8-8 and some bounces at the other end just didn't go their way, so I'm not ready to say that this week was the other shoe dropping on the season just yet. They cannot afford to drop a significant amount of points before the FA Cup weekend though. Chelsea has been marginally better than City on the road and after that it's West Ham, Newcastle, and Cardiff. With nine days between games they should be able to regroup, but they really need to hang on now after blowing their chance to be at least five up going into the holiday matches.

Conversely, Spurs are shit.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool still have huge questions around them, Liverpool going into White Hart Lane without Gerrard, Sturridge, or Enrique and putting on an impressive performance was great to see, I don't see if it really answered any of those questions. Until last night, we all had the Spurs as a potential for that #4 UCL spot, now I think people are starting to look at that as less of a possibility.

They will have a chance to show if they are the real deal or if the victories they have had are due to teams being down, ie: United. over Christmas they have both City and Chelsea on the road, personally, I saw this four game stretch and wanted 8-9 points out of it, hopefully I am not being too optimistic. One thing to note though, they will get all these teams again at Anfield, since the first half of the season they will have played, Arsenal, Everton, Spurs, Chelsea and City all on the road, and they have been a much more consistent team at home.

As for Arsenal, I don't even know what that was, the Gunners just shit the bed there as far as I could tell. In the first half it looked like they might have finally shut everyone up, but the second half they just imploded.

City is a very talented team, Will be very interesting to see what Rodgers lines up against them, I mean they scored 6 goals from 5 different people, it's not like you can just keep one guy frustrated, that team has great talent everywhere.

I think City can do that to any team they want in England when they can be bothered.
