Pre-Season Practice - 2005

They interviewed Schnitker about the Full Back position and he had good things to say about White. Tressel also stated that he can pick up guys on the edge when he has to. Schnitker joked about Johnson saying that he will hit anything but he was referring to the I formation and straight ahead...I am not going to research where this came from but what I took from it, as it was a couple weeks ago, was that Johnson was struggling with blocking people on the edges.

I am baffled about Datish at LT....Duane Long believes that he has struggled in open space....during the ESPN practice thing Doug was working at Center and he was struggling as Bolman got on him.

I guess John Kerr is playing better than we thought...I guess we will see on Saturday.

The more I look at this here is what I find truly remarkable. This is a team with 18 returning starters. You wold think the 2 deep would be pretty stable, but it is in constant flux.

The print version of BSB came out with their Projected Depth chart for the Miami game late last week. They are connected with the staff and should know what is going on. Yet there are 11 differences between what they published and what OSU released today.

What makes this all wonderful is that injuries account for almost none of this. It is all about good old fashioned competition and hard work in practice.

exactly, the more competition the better, it pushes the better player to keep it up, and the other player working harder and harder to catch him. this team has tons of depth and the constand depth chart changes continue to show that.

I am tickled to see Patterson where he is. After watching him as a Frosh I thought he had as much potential as any DL on the team.
Agreed. Patterson has the most natural talent of any of the experienced players on the line, and I think he's gonna explode this season. I really hope he puts some excitement back into our line.

For some reason I was mildly surprised to see Dukes listed as second-string flanker. Man, this receiving core is deep.

Mild surprises:

Stan White over Dionte Johnson - I think Johnson is the best FB we have. DEVASTATING blocker. Versatility may have won White the job.
Nope, White is the better blocker, at least from all I have heard. Johnson is one hell of a lead blocker, but is having trouble with the various blitz packages.

Brandon Schnittker over Erik Haw - This should REALLY make us worry about the running game that Tressel found it necessary to move a FB to second string tailback. Is Haw stuggling that much?
Not sure about Haw, but from all accounts, Schnittker is kicking some serious ass at TB. According to Herbie and Spielman, at this point he looks like the best TB we have, and they meant that in a very positive way. Herbie still feels that Pittman is extremely under-rated, and is in fact better than Schnittker, but Spiels thinks Brandon is better. Apparently Schnittker showed up fifteen pounds lighter, and is really turning some heads with his running.
