Pre-Season Practice - 2005

Saw a few minutes at lunch. Looks like Boone and Wilson both with the second teams. Probably the biggest thing was Bobby Carpenter seemed to have a pretty big wrap on his left wrist. Not sure what that was about.

I thought maybe our starting WRs had been thrown off the team as I did not see them until they finally showed them standing on the sidelines as a group.

The announcers, which included some guy named Spielman, said the practice was not really instensive and was going at about an average pace.

He injured it on the first drive of the scrimmage on Sat. I didn't see how, but after the play he definately looked like he was in some pain. He favored that arm for about the first two series, then he looked fine.

Although it was just one drill, I was impressed with Wilson in the defensive line drills......he is quick as hell.
This also popped out to me, he flew thru the cage (ducking under a 3 foot high, 5 foot wide cage) and turned the corner to grab that towel. He was at a whole different speed than everyone

Schoenhoft continues to look fantastic throwing the ball. I'm sure there is much to be learned yet for him, but I've yet to see any evidence that Zwick has developed his throws for 3 years at OSU. Hopefully it's just the ankle.

Some observations:

Datish was getting a lot of time at center. Looks like he's the #1 backup since Cordle went down. I guess he could have been the #1 backup before Cordle went down too.

Zwick looked like he was throwing some good balls... even though he still doesn't follow through.

Kudla looks quick as hell off the edge. And Carpenter made Boone look pretty bad off the edge as previously mentioned.

They really didn't show too many things and the practice was low key, but that's pretty much what I expected.

It's been quite a while since I enjoyed something that much on ESPN. :wink2:

Seemed like Tress and the coaches had everybody prepped to just ignore the cameras. I didn't see anybody showboating or playing to the TV audience.

Schoenhoft looked pretty good and really showcased his arm strength. I would have to agree with everyone else on Zwick, I hope it was his ankle. Im suprised what little reps Smith is getting at qb. I know he is suspended for the first game, but I still thought he would get more reps.

Overall, it was pretty neat being able to see tOSU practice before the season started. Just watching and listening to Tressel showed why he was one of the best coaches in the nation! That got me fired up even more for the season to begin!

I think we are going to be better than everyone outside of Buckeyeland expects. The only are I see that we might need a couple of guys to step up is the D-line. I wish Gholston was not hurt. Looks like they intend to rush Carpenter alot.

I'm not worried about the OL,RB,PK, Punter, or CB. Rush ends and quality depth on the DL is still a ?
